There is something achingly sad about watching LeBron fall to the ground and convulse uncontrollably any time a defender half his size comes near the ball. What makes it extra pathetic for James to flop this hard (see video above) as opposed to someone like, say, the minuscule Nate Robinson, is that it (the flopping in question) is just so horribly unnecessary. As a 6-foot-8 monster, the likes of which the NBA has never seen before, LeBron has all the size and talent to pretty much run over or around everyone on the court. In addition to getting away with as many offensive fouls as possible, as every NBA superstar does, I am only aware of LeBron being called on his flops once. Apparently, just like the referees, LeBron doesn’t even realize he is a flopper. However, David Stern is finally getting awfully tired of this flopping business. Stern recently stated that he believes penalties for floppers need to be much tougher to discourage the practice. He has all the awards an NBA player could ever hope for, rookie of the year, NBA All-Defensive Team, MVP’s to boot, finals MVP, and an NBA Championship. Maybe it’s time LeBron James added a “Flopper of the year” trophy to his collection.
