PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Matt Holliday hit a three-run homer and Jake Westbrook won his fifth straight start to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.

Tonight we witnessed Phillies baseball in it’s purest form. The Fightins won 3-1 as Roy Halladay pitched a gem, Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown pieced together a run, Chase Utley delivered a clutch bomb and Jonathan Paplebon scraped together a save.

With Roy Halladay on the bump, the Philadelphia Phillies don’t have many remaining outs to get. That stated, Rube Amaro has a collection of green studs in the ‘pen and at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. How many will make the grade?

St. Louis Cardinals weekly chat on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines.
Late Friday afternoon, I joined Ken Miller and Jim Brinson on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines in our regular series to discuss the St. Louis Cardinals, “Cardinal Talk.” This week, we discussed the Cardinals’ just-completed 5-2 homestand and their weekend ahead in Philadelphia.
Cole Hamels showed in his most recent outing why the Philadelphia Phillies decided to invest in him while dealing away others during a disappointing campaign.
His performances against the Miami Marlins this season haven't gone nearly as well.
The left-hander looks to help end Philadelphia's five-game losing streak to the Marlins in the opener of a three-game series Monday...
Halladay pitched eight innings, allowing only a run on two hits while striking out eight. It seems like old the Halladay is back.
St. Louis’ only run off Halladay came in the second inning when Carlos Beltran ripped a solo shot, his 28th on the season, to give the Cards a 1-0 lead. However, the Phillies answered back in the bottom half when Domonic Brown drove in Ryan...
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Roy Halladay pitched eight innings and Chase Utley hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night.
It was the second straight outstanding outing for Halladay (6-6), who missed 42 games while on the disabled list with a strained lat. He returned July 17 and struggled...

Tonight the Phillies will induct catcher Mike Lieberthal to the Phillies Wall of Fame prior to tonight's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. My teenage through early adult years of Phillies baseball were perhaps some of the leanest times in recent Phillies history, but one steady favorite was Mike Lieberthal, who transformed from a .200 hitting catcher...

Last week, we took a look at some good hitters to roster if you’re looking to play a spoiler in a few categories. This week, we take a look at the pitchers.
Now, these guys are a little different. Because they don’t play every day, they won’t make quite the same impact as hitters. But on the other hand, adding these guys will be much easier. It’s a little...
