Chris Pronger suffered what would eventually lead to a career-ending injury on October 24, 2011, against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pronger played in just five games following the injury. It has been almost two full years now since Chris Pronger suffered the injury that derailed his career. The stick of Mikhail Grabovski hit Pronger square in the face around his eye, leading to numerous post-concussion symptoms.  Pronger did play again in 2011-12, but has been on long-term injury reserve for each of the past two seasons.  Paul Holmgren made official what many had suspected for those two seasons. Chris Pronger's playing career is over. It was believed that the Flyers had to shy away from officially announcing the end of Pronger's career because it would violate an NHL rule that allowed his salary to be paid without Pronger being a part of the active roster and affecting the Flyers salary cap.
