How much will Notre Dame be worth to the ACC?

The big question people have wondered since Notre Dame agreed to join the ACC as partial member earlier this year. We know the details full member in all sports and 5 scheduled ACC games a year. Maybe we can gain an idea with some actual numbers. Let’s start with the ACC’s current TV deal. The ACC’s current television deal is worth and average of 17.1 Million per team a year with 80% coming from football and 20% basketball according to ACC commissioner John Swofford.  Previous to Pitt and Syracuse the joining the ACC, the conferences TV contract was approximately 13 Million. That would mean each basketball program with the addition of two teams grew from 2.6 Million to 3.42 million. That’s 20% of the 13 and 17 Million. That an increase of $820,000 with the addition of two teams. Divide that by 2, because Notre Dame is only 1 team, and for the addition of Notre Dame’s basketball and Olympic sports will add about $410,000 to each ACC Team. Now let’s figure in the football revenue… Currently Notre Dame gets 15 Million a year from NBC to televise 7 home games a year. That’s $2.14 Million per Notre Dame home game. Back when the contract was first signed with Notre Dame in 1991 split their TV reveneue with their opponent.  I don’t know if that’s still the case, but I think it’s easier for now to say when Notre Dame plays it’s 5 ACC games 2.5 belong to the ACC and 2.5 to the Irish. At $2.14 Million a game that means each ACC\ND games is worth  $5.35 million now divide that by 14 ACC teams, and you have $382,000 per ACC Team. Take $410K and add the $382 and each ACC team should see an increase of close to $800,000 in television revenue. I think this is a very conservation estimate because the Irish’s new NBC deal is rumored to be 20-24 Million, which puts the total worth of an Irish game closer to $3 Million a game or about $535K per ACC team. Based on this I fully expect the ACC television contract per team to increase anywhere from 1 Million to 1.5 Million dollars especially with the Irish looking like a future top 20 fixture.
