Found May 05, 2013 on Waiting For Next Year:
In this morning’s Plain Dealer, Paul Hoynes asked Indians designated hitter Jason Giambi about team chemistry. Giambi, 42, is in his 19th major league season with his fourth team (Athletics, Yankees, Rockies). The five-time All-Star was the 2000 AL MVP and has hit 431 homers in his career. Q: There’s an old saying about baseball being a team game played by nine individuals. How do you get around that to build chemistry? A: It’s true. It’s you against the pitcher, the pitcher against the hitter and then you’ve got to make the play on defense. But it also takes a team effort to win. I think that’s what chemistry brings because you have to have that guy who is willing to give himself up to move the guy from second to third or hit a ground ball to drive a guy in from third base. That’s what it takes to win a World Series. When everyone on the team is willing to do that, and if you look around this team everyone is willing to do that, that’s how you win ballgames. This season, Giambi is batting .207 (6-for-29) in 8 games, with 2 homers and 6 RBI. Giambi’s veteran presence in the dugout seems to be having a positive influence on this still-young team overall. Fishing for Mudcats: Lindor soars while the Muddies sink

From the Bait Shop: It’s been two weeks since the last visit to the bait shop. The IBI crew got together at Lake County for a fun-filled weekend, and I put the weekly notebook to bed for that week. I’d like to say that we’re back and better and ever, but the Mudcats have only won four games over the last two weeks. That’s just not going to get it done. The offense wasn...

Notes from the Wigwam: Just win, baby!

Isn’t it amazing how things can change in a matter of weeks? Just one week ago, the Indians were looking like a team that was inconsistent, deflated, and quite frankly — defeated. What about now? The Indians went 5-1 during this past week, and the team’s record now sits at 14-14. They’re currently in third place in the American League Central and they trail the Detroit Tigers...

Second Thoughts Game #26: Indians 7, Twins 6

This is a game where even when it felt like we were going to lose, they still win. That’s just the way this team has been rolling this past week. Center fielder Drew Stubbs had a career night going 4-for-5 with three doubles including a walkoff RBI double in the 10th inning. Justin Masterson bobbed and weaved and struggled with his command all night, but still gave the Tribe...
