CLEVELAND (AP) -- The Cleveland Indians have signed infielder Luis Hernandez to a minor league contract and re-signed right-hander Hector Rondon. Both deals include invitations to spring training. Hernandez spent most of 2012 with Texas' Triple-A affiliate. The 28-year-old batted .262 with eight homers and 70 RBIs in 129 games. He played 113 games at shortstop and 15 at second base. The switch-hitter appeared in two games for the Rangers when Michael Young went on paternity leave. Rondon's career has been slowed by two elbow surgeries. He is 36-36 with a 3.88 ERA in 120 minor league games. Once considered one of the top prospects in Cleveland's system, he has been limited to just 41 2-3 innings in the past three seasons. He is pitching this winter in Venezuela.

Indians trades need to look like more than cost cutting

Obviously this entire conversation is based upon the assumption that the Indians will make a trade or two this off-season. It also assumes that at least one of those players traded will be Shin-Soo Choo, Asdrubal Cabrera or Chris Perez. If that assumption seems faulty, then read no further. I’ll wait… … Assuming you’re still reading, I think it could end up being a little...

The Indians Face a Choice With Shin-Soo Choo

The Indians might be shopping some of their players. The newest rumor has the Red Sox interested in Shin-Soo Choo, whom the Indians have under team control for one more year of arbitration. Assuming the team won’t be in contention for the division title next year — they haven’t had a winning season since 2007 and, in related news, their starting staff has the second-worst FIP...

MLB Trade Rumors: Indians in talks with Red Sox for Masterson, Choo

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona could be sending some of his current players to his old team. Johnny Damon’s Strange World Baseball Classic Decision Actually Quite Fitting for Him (Video)

Johnny Damon is heading to the World Baseball Classic, but not as a member of the United States. Instead, he’ll be playing for Thailand as the small Asian country looks to qualify for the 2013 event. While on the surface it might appear that Damon is stretching the rules a bit to find a way to keep playing, a closer look at things reveals that, in fact, Thailand is a pretty fitting...

The Red Sox have “checked in” on Sizemore, according to the Boston Herald’s Michael Silverman. Now, teams tend to do a lot of “checking in” this time of year, but it’s an interesting...

How About Shin-Soo Choo In Orange And Blue?

According to Jon Heyman, the Cleveland Indians are not opposed to trading some of their best players such as Asdrubal Cabrera, Justin Masterson and Chris Perez.  But the one player on the Indians that the Mets should have on their radar is outfielder Shin-Soo Choo. The Mets are going into the 2013 season with the always hustling but never producing Jason Bay in left, your guess...

Should the Indians blow it all up?

A report from Jon Paul Morosi of Fox yesterday stated that the Boston Red Sox have interest in starting pitcher Justin Masterson and outfielder Shin-Soo Choo of the Cleveland Indians. Jon Heyman of CBS also reported earlier this week that in addition to Masterson and Choo, teams were inquiring about shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and closer Chris Perez. But would it make sense for the...
