CLEVELAND (AP) -- Nick Swisher has returned to the Cleveland Indians' lineup after missing three games because of a sore left shoulder. He is the designated hitter and is batting fourth Saturday against Minnesota. Swisher hasn't played since Monday. He missed the two-game series against Philadelphia and the Indians had an off-day Thursday. He was out again Friday but took batting practice. Swisher is hitting .265 with two homers and nine RBIs. He started the first 23 games -- 12 at first base, six in right field and five as the DH. He signed a four-year, 56 million contract with the Indians in January.

Scott Kazmir earns first win since 2010

Scott Kazmir earned his first victory since the 2010 season on Saturday. Kazmir worked six innings allowing two runs on five hits against Minnesota. Kazmir earned a rotation spot with the Indians after a strong spring but had struggled in his first two starts of the season. On Saturday Kazmir recorded seven strikeouts and allowed just one walk against a Twins team that has struggled...

Indians News: Scott Barnes Recalled, Ezequiel Carrera DFA, Bourn To Start Rehab

The Indians made a move to add some bullpen assistance with Vinnie Pestano currently day-to-day with elbow soreness. Left-handed reliever Scott Barnes was recalled, and he took Ezequiel Carrera’s roster spot. Barnes pitched in one game this year for the Indians, completing one inning of work and allowing two runs last week. Last season, he worked 16 games (19 IP) and had an ERA...

Indians News: Vinnie Pestano Looking To Avoid Trip to DL

Tribe setup man Vinnie Pestano was unavailable to work Friday night’s game. Instead, Cody Allen was sent into the game to allow Joe Smith to be saved for the eighth inning. Allen promptly allowed a go-ahead homer to Chris Parmelee. After the game, it was communicated by Tribe skipper Terry Francona that Pestano had a “cranky elbow” and he was unavailable that evening. Yesterday...

Tribe set-up man Pestano dealing with elbow soreness

Indians reliever Vinnie Pestano could miss some time with elbow soreness due to tendinitis. While a few extra days of rest may be all that is needed, a trip to the DL might be a possibility. Pestano says he's been dealing with tendonitis for years, but the ailment has never affected his ability to pitch effectively. "It's something we've been monitoring the last...

Indians Rack Up Sixth Straight Behind Kazmir, Early Power

I’m not sure to me what’s truly more startling during this six-game winning streak: the Indians’ offensive explosion or the team’s consistent starting pitching. Scott Kazmir earned his first win in three years, lasting six innings and striking out seven with the Tribe using 12 hits (for the sixth straight game) to take game two of the series from the Twins 7-3. With eight...

Fishing for Mudcats: Lindor soars while the Muddies sink

From the Bait Shop: It’s been two weeks since the last visit to the bait shop. The IBI crew got together at Lake County for a fun-filled weekend, and I put the weekly notebook to bed for that week. I’d like to say that we’re back and better and ever, but the Mudcats have only won four games over the last two weeks. That’s just not going to get it done. The offense wasn...

Cleveland Indians Claim Outfielder Ezequiel Carrera, Other Notes

The Cleveland Indians have claimed outfielder Ezequiel Carrera off of waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies. In other moves made by the organization they designated first baseman Michael McDade for assignment and optioned starting right handed pitcher Trevor Bauer to Triple-A Columbus. The post Cleveland Indians Claim Outfielder Ezequiel Carrera, Other Notes appeared first on...

Finally earning a victory for the first time since 2010, Indians pitcher Scott Kazmir has resurfaced in Cleveland

Following two hideous outings, Indians reclamation project Scott Kazmir stifled Minnesota Twins batters to lead the team to a 7-3 victory in Cleveland on Saturday afternoon. The 29-year-old Kazmir (1-1, 6.28 ERA), who easily outperformed Trevor Bauer, Carlos Carrasco and Daisuke Matsuzaka to become Cleveland’s fifth starter, vacated the mound as a winner for the first time since...

Twins attempt to cool off surging Cleveland

Scott Kazmir has gone nearly three years without a victory. His current teammates, meanwhile, have done nothing but win lately. With five straight wins, the Indians hope Kazmir can help continue that run Saturday against the visiting Minnesota Twins. Cleveland (13-13) has been firing on all cylinders during its streak, producing 46 runs and 12 homers while batting .357 despite...

Second Thoughts Game #26: Indians 7, Twins 6

This is a game where even when it felt like we were going to lose, they still win. That’s just the way this team has been rolling this past week. Center fielder Drew Stubbs had a career night going 4-for-5 with three doubles including a walkoff RBI double in the 10th inning. Justin Masterson bobbed and weaved and struggled with his command all night, but still gave the Tribe...

Baker is adjusting to the pros in first year after draft

Life after the draft changes considerably for a player, but Lake County Captains’ starter Dylan Baker knows that baseball is just a game. Baker, 21, was taken by the Cleveland Indians in the 5th round of the 2012 draft. The Alaska native attended Western Nevada Community College, where he went 13-0 with a 1.91 ERA and 126:46 K:BB ratio. Last season, Baker appeared in eight...

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Scott Kazmir earned his first victory in three seasons, Nick Swisher homered in his first at-bat since missing three games with a sore shoulder and the Cleveland Indians beat Minnesota 7-3 Saturday for their sixth straight victory. Calll to the Bullpen: Episode 1.4

Summer is in the air and Jake, Mike and Hayden are back to discuss the warming weather and warming bats in Cleveland. Cy Young winners are dropping like flies at the hands of Indians hitters as the Tribe is now working their way back to the .500 mark and staying in the AL Central race. The offense is scoring runs left and right while the starting pitching appears to be settling...

Mudcats stumble in extras, lose 4-3

ZEBULON- The Carolina Mudcats and Frederick Keys decided nine innings wasn’t enough time to decide a winner so they went extra innings. Unfortunately, the Mudcats were on the short end of a 4-3 loss to the Keys in 11 innings on Friday night at Five County Stadium. After both teams went scoreless since the sixth inning, the Keys finally broke through in the eleventh inning with...

Yankees: Remember Martin, Chavez, Swisher and Ibanez?

How is Bleacher Creature favorite Nick Swisher fitting in with the Tribe fans?  Nick Swisher – Roll Call. Is Russell Martin flourishing in Pittsburgh? Did Raul Ibanez bring his clutch bat from the Bronx to Seattle? And is Eric Chavez’s body holding up in Arizona? During this past off-season, the Yankees lost four key players from the 2012 squad.
