Team Penske announced Thursday that Hitachi will be the primary sponsor for nine races on three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves’ No. 3 Chevrolet in 2013. Hitachi will be featured on the car for the season opening race in St. Petersburg, Florida along with Sao Paulo, both races in Detroit, Iowa Speedway, Pocono Raceway, both races in Toronto, and Infineon Raceway. “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to drive the Hitachi Team Penske car next season,” said Castroneves, who will look to add to his 27 career Indy car victories. “We will race in the Hitachi colors at some great events in 2013, including my hometown race in Brazil, and it will be awesome to have them on board with the team.” Hitachi was on board for select races last season when they sponsored the No.2 Chevy driven by Ryan Briscoe. He won with Hitachi on the sidepods at Sonoma. Roger Penske spoke on the announcement and said, “Hitachi is a world-class company that proved to be a terrific partner for us this past season. With the technical support Hitachi provides to Chevrolet in its IndyCar engine program, this relationship represents a winning formula on many levels.” “We’re very excited to be back with Team Penske in 2013 and we look forward to working with Helio and the No. 3 car team,” said Rob Sharpe, Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc., Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “This valued partnership provides the Hitachi Group with the opportunity to grow our brand globally with a well-respected team built on a tradition of winning and excellence. It also creates great business-to-business and customer networking opportunities at some of the world’s premiere racing venues.” No announcement was made on who will sponsor the No. 3 Chevy in Barber, Long Beach, Indianapolis, Texas, Milwaukee, Mid-Ohio, Baltimore, both races in Houston, and Fontana. Last season Shell V-Power and AAA were on the car for Castroneves during the season. I can see a combo of both or maybe another sponsor to help fund the remaining 10 races. The team also has full funding from Verizon Wireless to sponsor 2011 and 2012 Izod IndyCar Series runner-up Will Power once again. They’re searching for another full season primary sponsor to continue a three car team.   The post IndyCar: New sponsor for 9 races in 2013 for Helio Castroneves appeared first on Race Review Online.
