Just when the Red Wings thought that everyone was healthy heading into the stretch of the early part of the season, News was brought down today that key defenseman Brian Rafalski will sit out the next upcoming weeks after getting his knee scoped Tuesday afternoon.

Doug Janik, who was recalled from Grand Rapids earlier today, will make the start tonight opposite of Niklas Kronwall.

Since there are no salary cap issues with the Wings to make this move, Rafalski will remain on the active roster and not be moved to injured reserve.

Janik is a journeyman who saw action in 13 games last season for the Wings, tallying two assists. The change will bring a little bit more grit to the lineup, as Janik has become known over the years as a player who loves to drop the gloves.

It is unclear if Janik will be the long-term option for the Wings while Rafalski is out, but it seems doubtful with Jonathan Ericsson close to returning to the lineup.
