PLAYERS: Ozzie Smith
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox have not only had one of the most surprising seasons in MLB but they have been doing it with epic beards.  The organization is jumping on the bandwagon and tonight were offering tickets for $1 for any fan with a beard. Sometimes beards help the confidence of baseball players and sometimes beards belong to guys in PIZZA sweaters.  Nothing on that sweater resembles a pizza and that guy has a massive shark tooth around his neck that he probably killed with his bare hands. There is so much going on in the picture, I can’t even stand it. (L to R) Santa Claus, ZZ Top, The fat guy from Lost, young Ozzie Smith, Pizza Guy, Trying to hard guy, Jenny Dell.   The post Is Pizza Sweater Guy The Greatest Sweater Wearer Ever? appeared first on Ride The Pine.

Dempster, Peavy, Lackey Face Birds At Fenway

The Red Sox will open their series with the Orioles by sending Ryan Dempster to the hill on Tuesday night. He will oppose Scott Feldman. Jake Peavy will take on lefty Wei-Yin Chen on Wednesday night, while John Lackey will face sixteen-game winner Chris Tillman on Thursday night. Boston has a realistic chance to clinch the AL East Division crown during this three-game set—assuming...

David Ortiz Crashes John Farrell’s News Conference, Jokingly Reenacts 2011 Outburst

BOSTON — You probably didn’t need any more proof that this year’s Red Sox team is a loose bunch. But David Ortiz showed just how relaxed they are prior to Thursday’s series finale against the Orioles. Ortiz barged into John Farrell‘s pregame news conference Thursday and started complaining about the scorekeeper — just as he did during one of Terry Francona‘s pregame...

Lackey Shines; Sox Capture Playoff Berth, 3-1

(Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images)John Lackey was about as good as he's been all year—no-hitting the Orioles for 6 1/3 innings in tonight's 3-1 Red Sox win. The right-hander secured a complete game win giving up just two hits, and striking out eight. Both the no-no and the shutout were ended with a mammoth homerun off the bat of Adam Jones in the seventh. Boston started...

The Red Sox potential playoff roster

The Guru Contributing Writer With the Boston Red Sox nine games up on the Rays and 10 games to go , not even Bobby V serving up Popeyes and Budweiser could derail this team from winning the American League East. Unless the Sharknado hits Boston, the Sox will start their World Series quest Oct. 9 at Fenway Park. The Sox will have decisions to make when it comes to the playoff...

Nomar At 2003 ALCS (FenwayNation Photo)Red Sox icon Nomar Garciaparra thinks the Red Sox are one of three teams that can win the World Series this year. Based on late-seasons momentum, the former Red Sox shortstop thinks Boston, Detroit and the Dodgers are best suited to go all the way. Nomar picked the World Champion San Francisco Giants to win last year,  "I really gauge...

FenwayNation PhotoShane Victorino, who jammed his right (top hand) thumb in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles will not be in tonight's lineup for the final game of the series. He was replaced late in yesterday's contest and is considered day-to-day. Jackie Bradley, Jr. will get the start in centerfield tonight, flanked by Daniel Nava in right and Mike Carp in left. Boston—with...

Shane Victorino Sits With Jammed Thumb As Red Sox Try Again to Wrap Up Playoff Bid

All right, let’s try this again. The Red Sox will have another chance to punch their ticket to the postseason Thursday night as they wrap up a three-game series with Baltimore. Because the Indians lost to Kansas City on Tuesday, the Sox now need just one win to clinch a playoff spot. With a pair of their usual starters — Jacoby Ellsbury and Shane Victorino –nursing injuries...

Red Sox clinch playoff berth, beat Orioles 3-1

The Boston Red Sox clinched their first postseason berth since 2009, beating the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 Thursday night behind John Lackey's two-hitter. Coming off a last-place finish and a 69-93 record - their most losses since 1965, the Red Sox have rebounded under first-year manager John Farrell and ensured at least a wild-card berth in the postseason. They lowered their magic...

RedSoxLife readers react to the Red Sox, Yankees 2013 season

Tweeted by @Conhawk Scott Levesque (@scottlevesque) Managing Editor You might be wondering why I love one-word answers? Well there are a couple of reasons why. First, it’s a throw back to those days when you’re parents said, “Because” followed closely by, “Because I said so.” To this day that’s a reoccurring topic with my therapist. Second, it forces people to...

Fer Sher!

Listen, I love what John Lackey has done for the Red Sox this year, but did you see him after the game? What a goofball. Other than characters in some eighties valley girl B-movie, who says “fer sher?” But whatever. I can’t believe I’m about to say this – that dude can pitch! The Lackster pitched a complete game two-hitter, allowing just one measly run. Throw in eight...

Red Sox’ Resilience, Ability to Respond This Season Should Bolster Faith in Playoff Run (Video)

The Red Sox’ destiny is in their own hands — they can secure a spot in the playoffs with a win Thursday night against the Orioles. Buck Showalter has a 33-24 record against the Red Sox as manager of the Orioles, and the birds have been successful in taking 9 of 6 against the Sox this season, so Thursday’s game could be a true test. The Sox can only clinch if they beat the O’s...

Red Sox miss playoff clinch in 5-3 loss to O's

The Boston Red Sox got closer to the playoffs on Wednesday night even as they missed a chance to clinch their first postseason berth since 2009. As they went into extra innings against the Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox were guaranteed at least a tie for the second wild-card berth when the Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Indians. But the Orioles kept Boston from clinching...

Buck, A Drunk NYY Fan, & A Loss 20 Years Ago

Blotto Yankee Fan Ruins Red Sox WinSince Buck Showalter is in town, it's fitting that we cite a Red Sox-related event involving the Orioles manager that happened twenty years ago tonight. Back then, Showalter was managing another team you may have heard of—the New York Yankees. In 1993, both the Yankees and the Red Sox were pathetic also-rans (much like the Yankees this year...
