BOSTON — It’s easy to forget that Jarrod Saltalamacchia led the Red Sox in home runs last season. Then again, that forgetfulness sums up Salty’s presence within Boston’s potent lineup. Saltalamacchia, who drilled two home runs in the Red Sox’ 10-5 victory over the Angels on Sunday, is one of the most gifted offensive catchers in baseball, yet his contributions often get overshadowed when Boston’s offense is rolling. It isn’t a sign of disrespect or a sign that Saltalamacchia’s efforts aren’t appreciated. It’s simply a matter of the 28-year-old doing his damage a little bit more quietly than some of the club’s other boppers. “I think a few other guys are getting some of the notoriety offensively in what they’re doing, but he in some ways is quietly going along and putting up a strong year,” manager John Farrell said after Sunday’s win. “[His] average is better, [his] power’s still there. He continues to I think improve his overall handling of our [pitching] staff, and like I s

Felix Doubront Continues to Build on Quality Starts, Feels Like He Could Go Deeper in Games (Video)

Felix Doubront has been something of an enigma for the Red Sox this season but has had solid starts in his last few outings. In fact, Doubront has racked up four straight quality starts after Sunday’s day game against the Angels. The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits over six innings on Saturday with four strikeouts. Though he eventually look the loss, Doubront said...

Buchholz may have start pushed back

Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz could have his next start pushed back at least a couple days. Buchholz, 9-0 with a 1.71 ERA this season, left his start Saturday in the seventh inning in the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader with what the team called ''neck tightness.'' Red Sox manager John Farrell indicated that Buchholz may not be ready to throw his...

Report: Red Sox Fan Proposes to Girlfriend at Tropicana Field

A fan proposing at a baseball game isn’t usually news. When it comes at an opponent’s ballpark? Well, that’s a little more interesting. Some love-struck Boston fan popped the question during a Red Sox game on Monday, but it wasn’t at Friendly Fenway Park that he did so. Instead it was at Tropicana Field, in front of a half-full dome of people probably a little surprised that...

Clay Buchholz Wins Amica Pitcher of the Week Honors After Four-Strikeout, Two-Hit Performance

It appears nothing can derail Clay Buccholz‘s dominant start to the 2013 season. After missing an appearance due to soreness in his right AC joint, the righty pitched five innings of scoreless baseball on Sunday in a 3-0 win over the Yankees. Buchholz struck out four and allowed just two hits and one walk. That performance lowered his season ERA to 1.62. Buchholz is 8-0 on the...

Red Sox-Rays Live: Will Middlebrooks Back in Lineup Against Tampa Bay, Pedro Ciriaco Designated for Assignment

2:45 p.m.: Will Middlebrooks is back, and the odd man out, as has been speculated, is Pedro Ciriaco. Ciriaco had his shining moments last season on a team that had little else to offer, but he hasn’t been anything but an average fill-in on the big league roster this year. With Jose Iglesias playing some truly inspired baseball in Middlebrooks’ absence, it only made sense to keep...

Carl Yastrzemski’s Grandson, Mike, Drafted by Orioles in 14th Round of MLB Draft
