Former Pirates, Red Sox and Mets outfielder Jason Bay has been designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners. The move was announced Monday, with the Mariners calling up outfielder Michael Morse from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma. Seattle made the moves before beginning a six-game road trip to Boston and Baltimore. Over the course of his 11-year career, Bay owns a .841 OPS and 222 home runs. However, he had badly slumped the past two seasons, hitting .165 and .204, respectively. Bay was famously part of the Red Sox trade that sent Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008. The Mariners have ten days to trade or release Bay. Alternatively, Bay has the option of accepting an assignment in the minor leagues. Jason Bay: Future Texas Ranger?

Texas Rangers’ General Manager Jon Daniels has never been known to sit by idly when it comes to improving his team. In recent years Daniels has shown the tendency to look into players that for one reason or another fit into the mold of a “low risk high reward” type. Players that usually fall into this classification are either attempting to make a return from major injury...

The Sox will be around -150 favorites to win this week’s three-game set at Fenway Park...
