The Red Sox comeback against the Yankees in 2004 was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, sporting events I'd ever witnessed in person. Now, almost 10 years later, another Boston team is trying to do the same thing against New York. Can they do it? The odds are obviously extremely doubtful. On top of the fact that no NBA team has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit before, last night was really the first time the Celtics looked like the better team for a sustainable amount of time. Still, the seeds of doubt have to have been planted in New York's minds, as their fans know full well what was started back in 2004 just a few miles from the TD Garden. None of the players on the Celtics current roster were in Boston at that point, obviously, but one of them does have a connect to a key Red Sox member who was. Jackie Mac on @weei with @mutweei & @loumerloni: Big Papi is Jason Terry's neighbor. They've discussed the 2004 comeback. Awesome.— Ben Rohrbach (@broh...

Jason Terry: We're not laying down

Jason Terry said after the Celtics beat the Knicks in Game 5 that they won't lay down against New York. The pressure is back on.

David Ortiz Gets Night Off As Red Sox Look for Series Win in Finale With Blue Jays

American League pitchers are likely running out of ideas when it comes to getting David Ortiz out as the Red Sox designated hitter has been red-hot since returning. It’s beginning to look like the only option is to hope that Ortiz’s name isn’t penciled into the lineup. The Blue Jays are lucky enough to have that happen Thursday night where Ortiz will get a night off (to start...

J.R. Smith may have cost NY Knicks the series vs Celtics

On the eve of game 5, vs the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks super-sixth man says that their wouldn't even be a game 5 had he not elbowed Jason Terry in the closing minutes of game 3. From NY Daily News: Jason Terry goes by the nickname “Jet,” while the monikers Knicks fans will undoubtedly call the Boston Celtics guard will fall under the category of “parental discretion...

Knowing when to shush

Since David Ortiz arrived back off the disabled list and into the Red Sox line up we have been treated to the hitting machine we know and love. Over the last 19 plate appearances he is hitting well over .500, slugging over .800, and an on base plus slugging (OPS) at a whopping 1.400! What more could a fan wish for in a player returning from the disabled list? I for one am always...

JR Smith when asked about Jason Terry: ‘Who?’

The Boston Celtics have an incredibly tall task ahead of them if they want to advance to the next round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. They are returning to New York on Wednesday night to face the Knicks, who have put Kevin Garnett and company in a 3-1 hole. If it’s bulletin-board material that the Celtics need to motivate them, JR Smith is doing his best to provide it. Smith...

Underrated Stat of the Night - Game 5

Tonight's game 5 over the Knicks was probably this team's sweetest victory since game 5 of last year's conference finals. They went into a loud MSG filled with bandwagon fans and stuck-up players. And they did exactly what I expected, they won with their maturity. Even when they trailed by 11 in the first quarter, they were relaxed. On the court, the sky was falling....

Game 27: May-be a good start to the month

David Ortiz continues to be a threat in the clean-up spot for the Red Sox. Ben Whitehead Contributing Writer Last night’s 9-7 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays ended a five-game win streak for the Boston Red Sox. It was also the first time this season the Red Sox lost the first game of series. They are 8-1 in that category and have won six of eight series to begin the season. Clay...

Melo's wife LaLa fires back at Jordan Crawford

Boston Celtics reserve guard Jordan Crawford instigated a postgame tussle by taunting New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony following Boston’s 92-86 victory over the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. As both teams crossed

5 Things Celtics must do to win tonight - Game 6

Tonight, the Celtics will look to even up their series with the Knicks when they play what could be their final game at the TD Garden this season. The Celtics have been in complete control in these last two games, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Right now, the Celtics are the better team. They have more experience and more momentum. I'll be shocked if they drop...

Papi weighs in on Buchholz

David Ortiz has been with the Red Sox for all the ups and downs of the past ten years. He helped the Sox win two World Series. He suffered through the 2003 ALCS, the 2011 September collapse, the beer and chicken fiasco, and Bobby Valentine's managing. With everything that he's done for the team, his opinion really matters. He's like an unofficial team leader. So naturally...

Can the Celtics recreate Boston sporting history?

Less than a week ago, the Boston Celtics trailed 3-0 in the series against age-old rivalries, the New York Knicks. Instead of submitting to defeat, the Celtics moved a step closer to doing the unthinkable when on Wednesday night they defeated the Knicks 92-86 in Game 5 of their best-of-seven series. Trailing 3-2, the Celtics will show their worth tonight in Boston in Game 6 and if...

Your Morning Dump…where the Knicks keep talking

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.  “Yeah. That’s cool. I thought they wore that last game too,” Jason Terry said yesterday of the Martin comment. “For us it don’t change whether they wear white, pink, blue, black, green — it’s Game...

J.R. Smith says if he played Game 4 the Knicks would be golfing right now

No, the season would be over if Chuck Nevitt was like 20 years younger and played for Boston Ok, no it wouldn't. The Knicks keep churning out the trash talk. They must be pretty fired up to be beating an old and beaten up Celtics team missing their best player. New York's Kenyon Martin told his team yesterday to wear funeral colors because they were going to end the series...

Game Notes: Knicks vs. Celtics Game Five

Now, this is a series. Knicks and Celtics go back to Boston for Game Six on May 3rd at 7:00 pm. Boston won last night 92-86. The Celtics looked really good, while the Knicks looked lackluster to say the least. After going up 3-0, the Knicks are traveling back to Boston up just 3-2. Let's not choke here, fellas. A couple thoughts and notes on the Celtics' win. Kevin Garnett...

Celtics-Knicks Preview

J.R. Smith may have altered a series with one poor decision. He certainly forced his midweek plans to change. When he dropped Boston's Jason Terry with an elbow to the chin late in Game 3 on Friday night, Smith earned a suspension that left the New York Knicks without their No. 2 scorer during the regular season for Game 4 on Sunday. The Knicks didn't have enough offense...
