When the Red Sox drafted Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel in the 29th round of the Major League Baseball draft, no one seemed more surprised than Driskel. When he found out that he was drafted by Boston, he indicated via Twitter that he would not join the Red Sox, responding to a fan’s inquiry with a simple “no sir lol.” But that all happened almost a month ago, and now Driskel has decided to sign with Boston in case he ever decides to pursue a career in baseball. For the moment, though, he is still committed to playing football for the Gators and pursuing a career in football. “After my college football career is over I want to pursue a professional career in the NFL. If I ever decide I want to play baseball, I want to play with the Boston Red Sox who drafted me in the recent draft,” Driskel said in a statement to The Associated Press. Driskel also took to Twitter on Thursday, clarifying to Florida fans that he is committed to seeing things through with the Gators. Yes I signed with the Red Sox. Nothing changes. I am still a full time student athlete at UF, fully committed to playing football. #GoGators— Jeff Driskel (@jeffdriskel) July 04, 2013 Driskel has played two seasons at Florida, throwing for a combined 1,794 yards and 12 touchdowns.
