Last night the 2012 Sports Emmy winners were announced.  The evening drew most of the big names in broadcasting there for the occasion.  Last night, NBC can claim a victory by leading networks with nine victories.  You can check out all the winners by clicking the link here, but these are the key winners...

Play by Play - Joe Buck

Sports Event Analyst - Cris Collinsworth

Studio Host - Bob Costas

Studio Analyst - Charles Barkley

Sports Reporter - Michele Tafoya

Daily Studio Show - MLB Tonight

Weekly Studio Show - Inside the NBA

Sports Documentary - A Game of Honor

Live Sports Series - NBC Sunday Night Football

Live Sports Special - World Series on Fox

ESPN also cleaned up on the feature segment department, with E:60 and Outside the Lines winning the short and long feature categories.  Jack Whitaker was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.  Looking at this list of winners, it's hard to argue with many of the choices.  Considering Joe Buck and Cris Collinsworth made up my #1 announcing booth in our NFL Fantasy Draft last month, I have to endorse those choices for play by play and game analyst.

The Sports Emmys aren't a make or break event to the wide majority of sports fans because they aren't televised and they seem to honor the same corporate favorites over and over again.  The event is more for the networks and certain personalities to rack up awards.  Bob Costas has won the Studio Host category 13 times since the category began in 1993.  Collinsworth has been awarded 13 times in the analyst categories, and it's Buck's 7th win since 2001.  At least the Emmys didn't honor Skip Bayless this year - considering his nomination was bad enough - with Charles Barkley winning the studio analyst category.  Let's get the Sports Emmys on television next year to increase interest for the event, after all, they televise ones for soap operas.  Bill Raftery can fill the role of Susan Lucci.
