MINNEAPOLIS -- Joe Mauer's status hasn't improved since he was sent home from Target Field on Wednesday. Sidelined since Aug. 19 with a concussion, the Twins' All-Star catcher continues to perform cardiovascular, non-baseball-related workouts with the team's training staff. He didn't take the field for Minnesota's batting practice Saturday afternoon, as he had last week, and it remains to be decided whether he'll make this week's upcoming road trip, general manager Terry Ryan said. "I don't think I can, and I don't think anybody can" predict anything at this point, Ryan said. "These things are very sensitive, because you don't want to push it." A foul ball tipped off the mask gave Mauer the first concussion of his 10-year major-league career. He showed signs of progress last week but became irritable -- a lingering concussion-related symptom -- and was instructed to go home and lie low Wednesday. If he doesn't fly with the Twins to Chicago immediately, there's still a chance Mauer joins them later during their final road swing of the season, Ryan said. Minnesota has matchups with the White Sox on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before travelling to Oakland for a four-game series.
