Is Joe Nieuwendyk on the hot seat with the Dallas Stars? There is a lot of rumors going around to expect sweeping changes in Dallas this off-season. Right now, I don't think those moves include the general manager.Nieuwendyk has one year remaining on his current contract. Ahead of the Saturday's season finale, Stars owner Tom Gaglardi wouldn't offer any hints as to potential changes in store for his club.  Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News suggests decisions made in the coaching department may be the most glaring and can you reason why Nieuwendyk is let go.  Passing on Nieuwendyk does not make much sense at this point. Remember, Nieuwendyk was given the authority to trade many of the Dallas Stars assets around trade deadline time, management fire him shortly after, not likely. It's clear the organization knew they were out of the playoff race and gave their GM the right to trade for the future.  It doesn't seem right that in this scenario the GM would be le...

Stars fire general manager Joe Nieuwendyk

Before the puck even dropped on Saturdays regular-season finale with the Detroit Red Wings, the Dallas Stars were already in the news because of a report by TSN's Darren Dreger that said club general manager Joe Nieuwendyk would be fired and replaced by Jim Nill, current assistant GM of those same Red Wings. The club refused to comment and nothing was official until Sunday morning...

Dallas Stars Relieve Joe Nieuwendyk Of His Duties

FRISCO, Texas - Dallas Stars Owner and Governor Tom Gaglardi announced today that he has relieved Joe Nieuwendyk of his duties as General Manager of the hockey club. "Joe Nieuwendyk has represented the Dallas Stars extremely well as the club's General Manager and has helped put pieces in place that will once again turn this team into a contender," said Gaglardi....

What's next for the Stars after missing the playoffs?

Now that it's official that the Dallas Stars will miss the playoffs for a fifth straight season, there are a number of questions to be addressed. First and foremost on the minds of local hockey fans is whether or not head coach Glen Gulutzan will return for a third season or if the club will be seeking its third different head coach in four years? And there are also questions...

Nieuwendyk Feels Progress Has Been Made In Dallas

from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, Joe Nieuwendyk was officially informed Saturday of owner Tom Gaglardi’s decision to go with a new general manager, but said he sensed there was a change afoot for some time. “I think it’s important for Tom to pick the people he wants involved in the hockey department,” Nieuwendyk said Sunday in Frisco. “Tom could have...

Five Games the Stars Would Want Back

With Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets at American Airlines Center, it's now official. The Dallas Stars will be bystanders in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs for a fifth straight season. Of course, the Stars' missing out on the postseason yet again likely means a number of offseason changes, which could include head coach Glen Gulutzan no longer being behind...

Admirals lose Game 1 in OT

Brett Ritchie scored the overtime game winner 11:44 in to give the Texas Stars a 3-2 win and, more importantly, 1-0 lead in this best-of-five series. “An unfortunate bounce with a rolling puck,” said Austin Watson. "That’s hockey and that’s overtime.” The momentum swung the Stars’ direction after defenseman Scott Ford went to the penalty box four minutes before...

It wasn’t all good news for the Red Wings Saturday night in Dallas… According to various reports, Red Wings assistant GM Jim Nill is expected to take over for Joe Nieuwendyk as the Dallas Stars’ new general manager next season. An announcement making the move official should come Monday. All indications are the Dallas Stars are about to make a GM change. Detroit’s Jim Nill...

from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, On the season, the Stars aren’t in the top 10 in any main statistical category. They are 11th in scoring at 2.72, but 24th in GAA at 2.94. They are 17th on the power play at 17.3 percent and 17th on the penalty kill at 80.6 percent. They fixed their power play and power play opportunities (sixth in 2012-13) from last season, when...

Red Wings will lose Jim Nill to Dallas

We knew that Red Wings assistant GM Jim Nill would leave the organization to become another team's general manager eventually, and TSN's Darren Dreger reports that Nill will leave Detroit this spring to become the Dallas Stars' GM: All indications are the Dallas Stars are about to make a GM change. Detroit's Jim Nill expected to be named GM of Stars as early...

(Photo by: Steven Christy) Texas Stars' goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp seeks the Calder Cup in his first career season in North America. Nilstorp acquired some experience in the NHL playing with the NHL affiliate Dallas Stars while Kari Lehtonen was injured. The 29 year old played for Farjestads in the Swedish Elitserien where he was, "one of the best...

Red Wings make playoffs for 22nd season, will face Anaheim after defeating Dallas

I'll write a quick take in a little bit, but after a nail-biting season and a nail-bed-biting last week, the Red Wings--perhaps despite themselves--earned what Ken Daniels duly noted was the team's first 4-game winning streak of the season, defeating the Dallas Stars 3-0 and setting themselves up for their 22nd consecutive playoff run. The Wings will now fly home for the...

Admirals take Game 2

12:04 in the second period, Austin Watson unknowingly scored the game winner that would tie the series up at one between the Milwaukee Admirals and Texas Stars. Mike Liambas’ shot was blocked by Watson cutting through the slot and he snapped the puck past Nilstorp’s blocker. Watson’s goal was enough for Magnus Hellberg, who recorded a shutout by stopping all 23 shots...
