Down and Distance:
After watching the Redskins’ week one win over New Orleans, former coach John Madden told SiriusXM NFL Radio that Robert Griffin III looks like “a Tim Tebow that can pass” (Credit: AP Photo)
Former coach and broadcaster, John Madden, watch rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins take on the New Orleans Saints this past weekend. Afterwards, Madden was more than fairly impressed with the Griffin III.
Madden compared Griffin III to a name I am sure plenty of people are tired of hearing, Tim Tebow.
“You know, the thing that he did that was so amazing was he reminded me — and I don’t mean to throw names around — but he reminded me of a Tim Tebow that can pass,”Madden said on SiriusXM NFL Radio, via the Washington Post. “You know, Tim Tebow, when he was playing for Denver last year, he would tend to freeze the defenses, because they weren’t sure if it was run or pass, if he was gonna hand off or run. I mean, he couldn’t pass like RGIII — [Griffin] can throw the ball — but he has a tendency to freeze the defense.
Madden said he was in awe of how poised Griffin looked while playing in a difficult environment in the Superdome.
“It’s darn near an impossible task to open up and play the Saints in their place,” Madden said. “I mean, no one wins down there, so I didn’t expect him to do anything like he did. But I did want to see him, and I wanted to see what he had. And at some point, I have to admit that I said this, it just came out, I said RGIII’s the best player in the NFL today. That’s what I really thought. Those words did come out.”

John Madden thinks pretty highly of Robert Griffin III, comparing him favorably to Tim Tebow.
It was a perfect day for rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III who had an amazing debut by throwing for 320 yards and two touchdowns as the Washington Redskins upset the New Orleans Saints 40-32, but the NFL front office isn’t happy with him. Before the game on Sunday, Griffin wrote the word “Heart” on the left [...]
Robert Griffin III is the first rookie quarterback to win an offensive player of the week award after his debut game.
The NFL announced Wednesday that Griffin is the NFC offensive player of the week for his performance in the Washington Redskins' 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints.
The No. 2 overall draft pick completed 19 of 26 passes for 320 yards with two touchdowns and...
Robert Griffin III, better known to the sports world as RG3, burst onto the National Football League scene on Sunday with an improbable 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints. The rookie quarterback for the Washington Redskins was electrifying in his debut, throwing for 322 yards, rushing for 42, and two passing touchdowns. Emerging [...]

One of the more compelling storylines from Week One was the impressive debut of Robert Griffin III. The Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and No. 2 overall pick led the Redskins to a surprising road upset of the favored Saints.
In fact, it was more than impressive. It was historic in more than one way.
On Wednesday, the NFL announced that Griffin is the NFC offensive player of the...
It isn't easy playing backfield buddy to Robert Griffin III. The ball placed on your numbers for a handoff can suddenly disappear. Take the wrong angle, and suddenly you're playing bumper cars behind the line of scrimmage.
The other rookie in the Washington Redskins starting lineup is sixth-round draft pick Alfred Morris, who overcame a misstep or two to have an NFL debut...
Washington Redskins – 40 New Orleans Saints – 32
By now I am sure you are aware that the Washington Redskins went marching into Saints territory and did something that no team was able to do last year — win in New Orleans — and did it in a rather strong fashion.
The much anticipated debut of Robert Griffin III lived up to everyone in Redskins Nation’s...
Robert Griffin III stole the headlines following Washington's Week 1 victory over New Orleans, but Pierre Garcon helped the quarterback a great deal. Fortunately, Garcon's solid effort hasn't gone unnoticed. The wide receiver was given the first ever WWE 4th & Pain Championship Belt for helping to lead the Redskins to a win on Sunday. Garcon, who racked up 109 yards...
Jerry Jones noted Tuesday that the Washington Redskins nearly beat the Cowboys twice last season, "without really acceptable quarterbacking."
The Redskins' defense made the difference, Jones said.
The Cowboys defeated the Redskins 18-16 in Week 3 and needed overtime for a 27-24 victory in Week 11.
In those two games, Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman was a combined...
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Still stinging from the thrashing they took from Robert Griffin III, the New Orleans Saints turn their attention toward defending another dual threat quarterback this Sunday in Carolina's Cam Newton.
Like Griffin, Newton is capable of breaking down a defense with his feet as well as his arm, and presents many of the same challenges for the Saints defense...
It was the first week of the 2012 NFL season, and there was plenty to be excited about. There were great match-ups across the board, to go along with many fascinating story lines. We got to witness Peyton Manning’s debut as the Broncos quarterback, Cowboys and Giants (after lots of trash talking), Mark Sanchez’s season opener with the dramatic filled Jets, and five rookie quarterbacks...
#MusicMonday has returned! In case you're new to my fabulous little column, I go through every Monday and recap/breakdown some of the weekend's more important story lines and set them to some tasty (and topical!) tunes. The idea comes from Twitter where everyone would add the hashtag #MusicMonday or #MM to find new bands and artists. I don't know if I'll necessarily...
