Hitter of the month: LF – Carlos Quentin July totals:  286/340/516 – 4 HR, 9 2B, 20 RBI The team may have fallen out of contention in July, but it was not the fault of its clean-up hitter.  The oft-injured left fielder turned in one of the more solid months in his Padres career, posting 6 multi-RBI games and collecting 13 extra-base hits.  Perhaps even more positive is the fact that he appeared in 24 games in the month, showing durability that has at times eluded him.  Now that the trading deadline has passed with Quentin still in a Padres uniform, it will be interesting to see how the final 2 months unfold. Pitcher of the month: RHP – Tyson Ross July totals: 2-0, 2.08 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 3.75: 1 K/BB, 7.8 K/9 The pitching was awful in July.  Therefore, the nod here goes to a guy who only threw 17 innings.  However, the last 16 of those innings were nearly flawless for Ross.  If you remove a terrible outing on the Fourth of July at Boston, Ross gave up all of 1 run over his last relief ...
