“These guys do a great job. They’ve really prepared a great car,” Kasey Kahne said after qualifying on Saturday at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway for the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race to be held at the track on Sunday. The car was good enough for a 50.017-second lap around Talladega that earned Kahne his third Cup pole start of the year, his first since nabbing the pole at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway back in April. Only one driver not among the 12 in the Chase for the Sprint Cup qualified in the top-five on Saturday. Ryan Newman was the lone non-Chaser to post a top-five lap, making a 50.098-second circuit that was good enough to garner a second-place starting spot alongside Kahne on the front row. “I’m just really proud of the guys,” Newman said. “My job is a very small percentage of what that lap was all about.” Newman was joined in the top-10 by three other non-Chasers — Carl Edwards in seventh, Trevor Bayne in eighth and Sam Hornish Jr. in 10th. ...
