I must give the San Diego Chargers credit. Their Week 9 match-up with the Chiefs could have broken their 2012 season.Instead of folding up their tents, they fought hard and pounced on the opportunity to breathe life back into their dwindling playoff hopes, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-13.Norv Turner lives to coach another game, and the San Diego Chargers can enjoy their week off much, much more now.Kansas City, meanwhile, continues their march toward the single season record for most total turnovers.Matt Cassel was back under center, and he picked up right where he'd left off prior to his concussion.By throwing interceptions. Two of them.At least this game was in hostile territory, allowing Cassel to be oblivious to booing Chiefs fans. What can be learned from this game? Here are five things:  1) Kansas City MUST draft a quarterback in 2013.Matt Cassel can be officially labelled "BUST" at this point. It's not his fault, though. The current regime in Kansas City WAY over-valued Cassel following his great 2008 campaign, when he started for the New England Patriots in place of an injured Tom Brady.Cassel did have a Pro Bowl season for the Chiefs, however. His best year was in 2010, throwing 262 completions on 450 attempts for 3,116 yards, 27 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. Yes, there was a time Matt Cassel went two games in a row with no picks. But that time has passed.2) Norv Turner is like Wayne Fontes.  Fontes was the epitome of a "just good enough" head coach while in charge of the Detroit Lions. His teams would under-perform, but not for lack of talent (see: Barry Sanders). Lions fans and many in the media regularly called for him to be fired. And just when it seemed the ax would fall, his team would pull it together, pull out a win, save their season and ultimately Fontes' job.Turner's teams notoriously under-perform, but not for lack of talent, either (see: Tomlinson, Landainian). Streaks of lousy play erupted, the fans and media called for his firing, and what happened next?Exactly what happened last night against the Chiefs. The Chargers remembered how to play good football, potentially saving their season, and Turner's job.3) Jamaal Charles is going to waste.  Charles is perhaps the best running back to put on a Chiefs uniform since Christian Okoye. When he is healthy, he is an elite-level back. He will average around five yards per carry while bursting through defensive linemen like they were made of paper. When you have no talent at quarterback to rely on, as the Chiefs do, but you have the uber-talented runner in Charles, you FEED HIM THE BALL! You hand it to him, pitch it to him, throw screens, direct snaps, whatever you have to do to get the ball in the hands of your best player. For some reason lost to me, Chiefs' coach Romeo Crennel handed the ball to Charles only 12 times, resulting in 39 rushing yards and an 18 point loss. Which is precisely why....4) Romeo Must Go.  Crennel has been riding his past successes as defensive coordinator too long. He was head coach of the Cleveland Browns for four years and went nowhere, granted it is the Browns, whom Vince Lombardi himself would have a hard time making into a winner. But I digress on that point. However, it is painfully obvious that Crennel is best when his focus is on the defense. Yes, these are not "his" players. A truly good head coach, however, does the most with what he has. The most, in this case, is realizing that neither quarterback is going to win the game for you, but your running back, might.5) Kansas City Is Playing HISTORICALLY Bad Football.  In only eight games this season, the Chiefs have 29 turnovers. They had 29 through all of 2011. Currently, the Chiefs are on pace to commit 58 turnovers this year. That is nearly four per game. How exactly did they beat the Saints, anyways?
