FOXBORO, Mass. — It would have sounded crazy to say in April, but there’s at least a chance Kenbrell Thompkins comes away with 1,000 yards this season. Between the departures of Brandon Lloyd and Aaron Hernandez, the Patriots have some receiving yards to make up from last season. As the de facto “X” receiver in the Patriots’ offense, Thompkins should be able to come away with Lloyd’s production, which was 74 receptions for 911 yards. What Thompkins lacks in Lloyd’s experience, he makes up for in his ability after the catch. Because of that skill, Thompkins could be viewed as a mixture between Lloyd and Hernandez out on the field. His personality and off-field behavior is much different, of course. Don’t worry about added pressure affecting Thompkins, either. No one seems more even keeled in the locker room than the Cincinnati product. To hear more about Thompkins and the rest of the Patriots’ wide receivers, watch NESN.com’s Patriots writer Doug Kyed and MassLive.com’s Nick Underhill discuss the position in the video above.
