The Kent State Golden Flashes appeared in their first bowl game in 41 years in the Bowl.  Unfortunately for them, it did not go the way they planned and they lost to the Arkansas State Red Wolves 17-13.It’s not surprising that they unveiled something special for this bowl game, but these helmets were utterly bizarre.  Luckily, there is an awesome back story from SBNation that explains why the helmets looked like this.“When he came in, he found a gold helmet and said that would be the helmet that we wore in the bowl game,” Kent State athletic director Joel Nielsen said on Thursday. “So just last week, we had all our helmets painted, so you’ll see gold helmets for the Golden Flashes coming out on Jan. 6.“He said it the first week that he was on campus. He wanted his team to see that target every time they walked in the office. And that target was that gold helmet. It’s in a glass trophy case that has been in their office ever since he took the job. And so now, the young men are so excited about wearing that gold helmet because that’s the goal that they really sought out for the last couple of years.”So while these helmets were definitely the most bizarre helmets of the year, they have one of the best stories.[H/T: SBNation] [Video via: USA Today] [Photo via:]
