Kevin McHale joins NBA TV; replaces Gary Payton's collar

Big news via Sports Media Watch today: Former Minnesota Timberwolves vice president Kevin McHale has found a new job, joining Ernie Johnson and Chris Webber(notes) on NBA TV's Tuesday "Fan Night" telecasts, replacing my friend, and yours, Gary Payton(notes).I'm not overly excited about the move. As scatterbrained as GP was at times on air — "Ching sham on, man. I like dat. It like when you got hit." — there's no denying that he and C-Webb made for some entertaining television. I mean, can you really picture Kevin McHale doing this?With that said, McHale was a good quote during his playing days with the Celtics, and he does have previous broadcast experience working for two years on Wolves telecasts. In fact, according to The Star Tribune, his ex-broadcast partner, Kevin Harlan, recommended TNT add him to its stable of announcers.
