The Pittsburgh Steelers were likely hoping to extend the contract of center Maurkice Pouncey next offseason, but now his season enduing knee injury that he suffered he in the opener against the Tennessee Titans could make for difficult negotiations.
Pouncey, whose rookie contract is up following the 2014 season, is set to count $4.639 million against the cap in 2014. That number includes a $1.95 million roster bonus that the Steelers probably had planned on rolling into a new extension next offseason.
Now that Pouncey will be coming off a serious knee injury, those extension talks figure to be interesting ones. The Steelers will undoubtedly have concerns about Pouncey's knee, while Pouncey will insist he is a three-time Pro Bowler center that deserves to be paid like one.
If at all possible, the Steelers will want to get Pouncey's 2014 cap hit down, but they won't be able to do so without extending him. Should they choose to allow him to play out the final year of his co...

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and MCL and is out for the season.
It's a devastating injury for the Steelers. Pouncey a three-time Pro Bowler and 2011 All-Pro was the lynchpin of a very thin and shaky offensive line.

One of the huge surprises from Sunday’s action was the Steelers’ opening day loss at the hands of the Tennessee Titans. It was a very Steeler-esque game, but at the end of the day, it was the Titans that had the upper hand.
The Steelers’ defense actually did its part in the 16 to 9 loss. The Titans were unable to move the ball consistently, but they were able to do just enough...

After one game, there should be no need for panic, but after what happened to the Steelers, I believe it is time to panic. 16 NFL teams are currently 0-1, but the Steelers are much more than that. It doesn’t look like anything has changed from last season, and the offense looks even worse. And on top of that, Pittsburgh is now down two starters.
Maurkice Pouncey, the Steelers...
The Pittsburgh Steelers preached about an impending change of attitude in their locker room after a lackluster 8-8 campaign last season.
Week 1 of the 2013 NFL season has not been very kind to the men of Steel City.

Opening weekend of the NFL always has a few surprises, but even so, much of the week is composed of fulfilled expectations. The Jaguars were awful, as expected. The Saints and Falcons were in a close battle to the end — as expected. The two exceptions, at least in the early round of games, was the Titans and the Jets surprising everyone with opening wins.
The Titans were able...
