Up until now, seeing “John Lackey” and “one hit” in the same sentence would be surprising. Unless that sentence was something along the lines of “John Lackey gave up one hit on the first pitch and then 10 more after that.” All joking aside though, it seems as though Lackey has made a turnaround after taking a season off due to Tommy John surgery.
Lackey did give up only one hit in the Sox’s 5-1 win over the Minnesota Twins Sunday. He was perfect through the first four innings. The one run the Twins scored was on a throwing error by Pedro Ciriaco, leaving Lackey with no earned runs. And the sole reason for pitching only six innings was the three-hour rain delay. Had that not happened, maybe we would have seen him complete the game. Not bad for someone who over the past three years had been ruled a huge disappointment.
“If it goes longer than a half-hour, they usually won’t let you go back,” Lackey said of the delay after th...

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Lackey earned the win, his first since April 28, improving to 2-4, lowering his ERA from 4.05 to 3.31. “The record doesn’t indicate or reflect how well he’s pitched,” manager John Farrell said. “Now...
Base hits have been elusive to Red Sox leadoff man Jacoby Ellsbury in the last few games. After his first day off all season on Sunday in Minnesota, Ellsbury was back in the Sox’ lineup on Monday in his usual leadoff spot.
The center fielder grounded out to second base in all four of his appearances at the plate Monday, rounding out a road trip that has seen his batting average...
Jacoby Ellsbury, near MVP in 2011 and owner of an injury plagued campaign in 2012, may be getting dropped out of the leadoff spot shortly in the Red Sox lineup.
Manager, John Farrell, indicated Ellsbury may lose claim of being the leadoff hitter if he didn’t turn around his rough start to 2013, which won’t help negotiations in Free Agency as Ellsbury’s contract is set to expire...

Baseball Prospectus via Deadspin:
But there is another forgotten relic from baseball’s sexual past. Perhaps lost amidst the frenzy of cocaine, the advent of the CD player, and the soulful tunes of After the Fire, during the early 1980s Playgirl magazine convinced a number of baseball stars to pose seductively within their pages.
A.B. I know Playgirl was trying to paint Remy as...
The 2004 Boston Red Sox team achieved some special things that season. They made that historical and improbable comeback from a 3-0 deficit to the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series, and then went on to win the team’s first title in 86 years when they beat the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series.
The loose clubhouse atmosphere was a staple for that...
It seemed like every time that Boston Red Sox starter Jon Lester put people on with two outs, it would cost him. Well it did as the Chicago White Sox took advantage and held off the visiting nine in a 6-4 win at U.S. Cellular Field on the south side of Chicago on Monday night.
After falling last night, the Boston Red Sox look to get back on the winning side of things in the middle game of a three-game set with the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on the south side of the Windy City.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. If you live in the Red Sox television market you can catch the game on NESN. If you live in the White Sox television market...

Jon Lester had an off night and the Boston Red Sox (27-18) fell in the opening game of their road series against the Chicago White Sox (20-23). Tonight, the Red Sox turn to Felix Doubront (3-1, 6.03 ERA) to try to even the series. The lefty walked six batters in his last start against Tampa Bay and is allowing opponents to hit .307 against him this...
3:59 p.m.: The Red Sox are getting their closer back.
Andrew Bailey was activated from the 15-day disabled list this afternoon. Righty Jose De La Torre was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room on the 25-man roster.
Bailey is 1-0 on the season with five saves and a 1.46 ERA. He has 20 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings.
De La Torre made two appearances in relief for the Red Sox...

First Pitch: Monday 8:10, Tuesday 8:10, Wednesday 8:10
Arms: Monday: Jon Lester, LHP (6-0, 2.72 ERA) vs. Dylan Axelrod, RHP (1-3, 4.27 ERA)

Wednesday: Clay Buchholz, RHP (6-0, 1.78 ERA) vs. Chris Sale, LHP (5-2, 2.53 ERA)
What a hard game to watch, on so many levels. Jose Quintana was-unhittable through six, and then the Red Sox could not cash in on chances in the seventh and eighth innings.
Here are the four bases:
First Base: Surprisingly, the most efficient start for Félix Doubront this year. It was interesting that John Farrell pulled the lefty out after 84 pitches, which could mean that the...
