The reason Duke’s Ryan Kelly fell so far down the board in the 2013 NBA Draft was due to the questions surrounding his problematic right foot. Despite Kelly claiming after the draft that his doctors expected him to make a full recovery, he still isn’t fully healed, and seeing as the the 22-year-old has yet to sign a contract with the team, it’s beginning to look like he may not be definite member of the opening night roster. Dave McMenamin reported earlier this month that the Lakers had been discouraged by Kelly’s progress throughout the summer and didn’t expect him to be ready for training camp. Mark Medina today tweeted that the Lakers will reevaluate the three-point specialist in about a week, however, Kevin Ding has his doubts that Kelly will make the team’s final roster: Lakers officially signed Marcus Landry, brother of Carl. Marcus might well make the team, helped by Ryan Kelly (foot) very possibly not.— KEVIN DING (@KevinDing) September 16, 2013 Ding is very well connected to the Lakers and his tweets usually reflect the current thinking of the purple and gold. The fact that the team has also signed a bunch of potential power forward’s could also be a sign that Kelly could be soon pushed out of town. Hopefully, though, Kelly will heal within the next few weeks and will be ready to go sometime during the pre-season; it’s not often that a guy with that kind of touch and height comes along, so it’d be nice if he gets a chance to play in Mike D’Antoni‘s system. .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } @media(min-width: 500px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } } @media(min-width: 800px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 336px; height: 280px; } }
