Chad LaRose scored to snap a tie with 1:22 remaining in the third period as the visiting Carolina Hurricanes prevented the Winnipeg Jets from pulling into a tie for eighth place in the Eastern Conference with a 4-3 win late Sunday. Captain Eric Staal tallied twice to secure his seventh straight season with at least 20 tallies. Jussi Jokinen collected a goal and two assists and Cam Ward turned aside 30 shots for the Hurricanes, who have won three in a row. Antti Miettinen snapped a career-worst 34-game goalless drought by tallying twice and Nik Antropov scored a goal for the third consecutive contest for the Jets, who remained two points behind Washington in the standings. The Capitals dropped a 5-2 decision to the Chicago Blackhawks earlier on Sunday. With the score tied at 3-3, LaRose accepted a feed from Staal at center ice before skating in and beating Ondrej Pavelec for his 17th goal.

Hurricanes Weekly Report 3/12 - 3/18

Over the last three games, the Canes have outscored their opponents 6-0 in the third period and have comeback wins in two of those games, as well. What is even more encouraging is...

No, Winnipeg, Eric’s better

For 40 minutes, the Winnipeg Jets-Carolina Hurricanes game was a slightly loose and fairly unpredictable game. Then, like they have many times before this year, the Jets came out completely flat in the third period, gave up two goals and lost – in regulation, no less – 4-3. To say this was a must-win game for the Jets is akin to using one any hockey cliché – redundant and...
