The mother of a woman accused of stalking New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman has abruptly dropped her lawsuit against him. The New York Post (http://bit.ly/11RiVwB ) reports that Caroline Meanwell filed documents in court Tuesday to drop the lawsuit. The suit had alleged that Cashman conspired with her daughter's former therapist and his legal team to trick Meanwell into calling 911 to discredit her daughter, who had claimed to have a nine-month affair with Cashman. The suit claimed Meanwell was coerced into telling authorities her daughter, Louise Neathway, was going to kill herself so Neathway would be institutionalized. Prosecutors say Neathway stalked Cashman and got him to pay her $6,000 by threatening to damage his reputation. Neathway has pleaded not guilty.

"To see the universe in a grain of sand/ And eternity in an hour:" My predictions for the 2013 Yankees

Print. This. Out.1. April is strong. The scrap heap Yankees are long on scrap and short on - well - "heap," finishing that wordplay, despite lack of meaning. Lyle Overbay, Vernon Wells, Ben Francisco, Brennan Boesch and Cookie Rojas - (they coax him from retirement) - bring experienced professionalism and do something the team couldn't do last year: Hit with runners...

Yankees Exhibition: Pettitte, Yankees appear season ready

New York Yankees 4 — Washington Nationals 2   Andy Pettitte struck out six over six innings in today’s 4-2 win over the Washington Nationals.   Robinson Cano is on top of his game as he got two hits, including a double, in today’s game. The Yankees got their offense started in the 4th inning on Kevin Youkilis’ sixth home run of the Spring to left field. Eduardo Nunez...

Why Yanks will finish LAST in AL East

I have immense respect for the New York Yankees. Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera -- first-ballot Hall of Famers who have spent their entire careers with the same franchise -- are class personified. Even amid talk of the mythical $189 million ceiling for next year, the Yankees (unlike other franchises) have an enduring commitment to winning, with 27 World Series championships to prove...

Spring Training Game 33 Lineup: 3/28/2013

Their bags are packed and ready to go, as today will be the final Grapefruit League game of the spring when the Yankees  take on the Pirates from George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. Following today’s game, the Yankees will head to Washington D.C., to play the Nationals in an exhibition game tomorrow. On Saturday, the team will travel up to the West Point Military Academy to...

Lonn Trost and Yankees cry uncle on StubHub; will allow electronic tickets

Remember the whole to-do this winter about how the Yankees came up with their own ticket exchange system with Ticketmaster, snubbing StubHub? And how the only way Yankee fans were going to be able to print out electronic tickets on the secondary market was with the Yankees Ticket Exchange? And that because of this, StubHub was going to have to open up a location by Yankee Stadium...

Yankees make Lyle Overbay their Man

AL BEast Notebook – March 28 The Yankees finished their Grapefruit League season today, losing 2-1 to the Pirates. After the game, Juan Rivera was released and according to ESPN New York’s Wallace Matthews, Lyle Overbay will be the starting first baseman for Opening Day and for the next six weeks. Well, almost. Their first game is against lefty Jon Lester, so it is likely that...

Jeter will not play in minor league games until next week

Derek Jeter will begin the 2013 season on the disabled list. Jeter last played a game on Saturday and was still sore in his surgically-repaired ankle the following day. The Yankees have already committed to starting the season with their captain on the disabled list. Jeter could miss more then just the Opening Day game against Boston though. Jeter will be out of any game action until...

Deja Vu all over again

The Yankees will enter the 2013 season without an offensive-minded catcher for the first time in about 17 years. The departure of Russell Martin has left much to be desired offensively from the current crop of backstops, mainly Francisco Cervelli – who figures to be the starter -  and likely backup Chris Stewart. The situation this year is very similar to what happened in 1996...

The New York Yankees ARE The Walking Dead

Derek Jeter broke his ankle in the ALDS last year. He still has not fully recovered. “The Captain” is among “The Walking Dead” who the Yankees currently have on the DL. Everyone is infected… Phil “Yooz” – Back “The Grandyman” – Arm A-Rod – Torn Labia Mark Tiexierierixa – Wrist “#1 in your heart, but #2 on your scorecard”, “The Captain” – Ankle...

Yankees Release Juan Rivera

Embracing a new role, Cano ready to go for Yankees

Robinson Cano turned the World Baseball Classic into a personal display. There was a backhanded grab and glove flip to start a double play against Venezuela. There was a home run he crushed off the second deck against Italy. And, in the end, there was an MVP award for helping the Dominican Republic win the international crown. ''He had a great series,'' Yankees...

Johan Santana, Alex Rodriguez Among Worst MLB Contracts Heading Into 2013 Season (Photos)

Baseball fans are witnessing a couple of contract humdingers as Opening Day approaches, with both the Mets and Yankees once again looking precarious thanks to some pricey contracts they handed out. For the Yankees, the culprit is of course Alex Rodriguez, who will make $29 million — more than the Houston Astros’ entire payroll — this season. That’s bad enough, but there...

Vernon Wells: A look back

January 21, 2011. For Angels fans, it is a day that shall live in infamy.   Less than a month into the new year, Mike Napoli and Juan Rivera found themselves bound for the great white north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Meanwhile, in Anaheim, players and personnel awaited the arrival of the Angels' newest acquisition: Veteran outfielder Vernon Wells. A man that has had...
