Leon Powe went to the L.A. Defenders’ NBA D-League game Monday night and told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin he is looking at two teams — the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies.Considering they have nearly nothing to spend, the Celtics could probably do worse than Powe. Sure, he has played just 50 games since leaving the Celtics two full seasons ago. His knees are more beat up than Chris Brown’s ex-girlfriends. He scored in double figures exactly five times last year and averaged just 8.8 minutes per game in 16 games with the Grizzlies (he played 30 games overall last season, averaging 13.3 minutes for the Cavs). But the Celtics need to do their share of bargain shopping this offseason. And Powe, if he can get healthy (admittedly a ginormous if), could be a bargain.Plus, this is LEON POWE, who scored 21 points against the Lakers in the glorious 2008 NBA Finals, after which Phil Jackson mispronounced his name “Pow” during a diatribe against the officials. Who played three minutes after te...

Danny Offers Rondo, Green, & two 1st rounders for Chris Paul

Ken Berger CBS Sports But the Celtics stepped forward with an offer that would not have to come with any commitment from Paul that he'd re-sign with Boston after the season. According to a person familiar with the discussions, the Celtics offered Rajon Rondo, two future first-round picks, and restricted free agent Jeff Green in a sign-and-trade for Paul. The impetus behind...

Video: Felger calls Rondo a "prick" on TV

I'm going to show a lot of restraint here when I say this about Michael Felger:  He likes to take extreme stances to get reactions out of people.  It's his thing.  But sometimes, he can go to far.  Like what he said about Rajon Rondo tonight.  It comes at the end of the video above, where he says "he can't shoot and personality-wise...

Rajon Rondo Trade Rumors Shouldn’t Have Celtics Fans Concerned

Even if the past three months have consisted of nothing but exhibition games and stock footage of David Stern talking business, there’s been plenty of time to mull over potential free agent options for the Boston Celtics ahead of Christmas day. For one, there’s Dwight Howard if your credit card is big enough. Or two, there’s the marked down version of Howard — Chris Paul...

Celtics willing to trade for Chris Paul without extension assurance

ESPN There is also a small handful of teams that has informed the Hornets they are prepared to trade for Paul with no assurance that they can keep him beyond this season. That list, sources say, includes the Rockets, Boston Celtics and defending champion Dallas Mavericks. Each of those teams would be gambling that Paul would be won over by his new surroundings and either elect to...

Celtics Need Signature Quick Start More Than Ever, As 2011-12 Schedule Is Treacherous in Second Half

The Celtics have made a habit out of quick starts during the "Big Three" era. With the NBA announcing its condensed 66-game schedule on Tuesday, it's incredibly clear that they'll need another one of those quick starts more than ever this season. First, a little bit of history. In the four seasons since Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen came together in Celtic...

Red's Army Rewind: Fans salute John Havlicek

On April 9, 1978, John Havlicek played his last game before Celtics fans. How did they treat the legendary Hondo? With a roaring 7 minute standing ovation that will make the hair on the back of you neck stand up. I've never seen/heard anything like it. The best part of all, no hyped up introduction from the P.A. guy or video montage to get the fans worked up. They rose from...

The Memphis Grizzlies announced today that Bob Thornton and Lloyd Pierce will complete head coach Lionel Hollins’ staff as an assistant (Thornton) and player development coach (Pierce). With almost 30 years of collegiate and professional basketball experience as a player, scout and coach, Thornton comes to Memphis after spending the past four seasons (2007-11) as an [...]

I Am A Celtic

Dear Celtics, trading Rajon Rondo would possibly be worst idea ever. Taking him away from a mix that includes Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett is on par with trading Tom Brady away from the Patriots (who I hate) and he just won’t look right in a non-Boston jersey. Why? Cause he’s a Celtic dammit, that’s why.
