LESS THAN THRILLED OF COURSE.

Posted March 22, 2013

GREENTILDEATH recently pointed out that the quality and volume of my cheerleading is down markedly from last year. I won't fake the funk, he was right on the money with that observation.

We spend a lot of time talking about what players do on the field, but we seldom talk about the behind the scenes stuff. I'm just as concerned with Tuesday to Saturday as I am with Sundays, because one builds the other. Let me explain better WHY my enthusiasm has waned.

Aside from players my greatest concern is always, always, always coaching. Billy Davis is the DC, but the team’s DL coach, Assistant DL coach, and both DB coaches were all with Chip Kelly at Oregon last year. What that means is the technique they’re going to coach up the players with, has a 98% chance of being what they taught last year. The ILB coach and the OLB coach come from two different colleges by the way. COMBINED there is not a single day of NFL coaching experience among the entire pool of our defensive position coaches.

Let me say it more plainly: Billy Davis will assemble NFL game plans that will be executed by players using collegiate technique.

One more thing. The Assistant HC (second in command) is the DL coach and not the DC. Didn’t we just have a situation where the position coach outranked the Coordinator?
