If there’s anything we’ve become good at these last four years it’s saying “just wait till 2014, 2015, etc.” More specifically, yet ironically lacking specifics, is that we generally say “We’re building for the future” and “Next year.” There’s always this concept of a Master Plan, or something resembling the religious concept of Intelligent Design–that Sandy Alderson has been building this team from the farm up, evolving our philosophies, shifting our statistical focus, and player management. When it all comes down to it, each year could’ve been “our year” since Alderson’s taken over. There was always a fluke chance of everything suddenly falling together, even with a ragtag team, and our Mets showing signs of climbing from their rut. While the 2006 Mets saw huge years from Delgado and Beltran, we can’t forget that Wright and Reyes were only 23 years old, that we had Jose Valentin starting, and Xavier Nady as our starting right fielder. My point is, sometimes things fall

Are Mets Making A Medical Mistake With Zack Wheeler?

When it comes to injuries, will the New York Mets ever learn? Zack Wheeler has been shut down for the season after complaining of shoulder stiffness last weekend in Philadelphia. Smart move. However, Wheeler was examined only by an on-call doctor at the park in Philly, and as of now hasn’t been examined by Mets’ doctors. So far, no MRI. After what happened with Matt Harvey, who...

A Q&A With FSL Player of the Year Dustin Lawley

This was an interesting season for the St. Lucie Mets. In the first half they finished in second place, eight games out of first and missed making the playoffs.  In the second half, they fought and nearly pulled off a miracle at the end before running out of time.  It was a very good season for a team with some talented hitters. One of those hitters, outfielder Dustin Lawley...

Alderson More Concerned About Credibility, Than A Protected Pick

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Mets GM Sandy Alderson is not as concerned about the protected draft pick as much as he is about rebuilding the credibility of the franchise. “I don’t view the draft-pick situation as relevant to what we’re doing here,” Alderson said. “We’re trying to build the credibility of the franchise and that goes beyond where we...

Should the Mets think about extending Daniel Murphy?

After an up and down season, Daniel Murphy’s final stat line isn’t too bad at all. .285/.315/.415, .320 wOBA, 106 wRC+, 3.0 fWAR, and for what it’s worth, career highs in hits (186), home runs (13), stolen bases (20, while being caught only three times), triples (four), runs scored (92), and RBIs (76). The average second baseman this year .256/.316/.375 mark, with a 90 wRC...

The Protected Pick and The Looming Winter Of Our Discontent

After last night’s 3-2 loss to the Reds, the Mets remain in a four-way tie for the eighth worst record. The teams with the 10 worst records get their first round picks protected in the 2014 Draft. If it comes down to a tie breaker to determine the ten worst teams, the higher draft pick goes to the team that finished with a lower winning percentage in the previous season. Regardless...

Mets Wrap: Suggesting Sandy Alderson Would Tank To Get Better Draft Pick Is Irresponsible

Why is this even a question for the New York Mets? ALDERSON: Stupid to suggest he would tank. Yes, the issue of the protected pick surfaced last season when the Mets were considering signing Michael Bourn as a free agent. Major League Baseball wrongly ruled in that case. However, this time, the issue of draft-pick compensation surfaced in relation to the team winning or losing on...

Which shortstops are available this offseason for the Mets?

Whether Ruben Tejada fans like it or not, the man has played his way out of the starting role next season. There are few internal options but many external options that the Mets could explore. Choo Gotta Be Kiddin’ Me… Mets Seeing Red After 3-2 Walkoff Loss

DEEP ENOUGH… CHOO WINS IT FOR REDS… Aaron Harang went six strong and Duda had a day, but it was not enough as the Reds edged the Amazin’s 3-2. The Reds struck first when (future Met?????) Shin-Soo Choo hit a grounder right back up the middle to bring around Todd Frazier. Harang then issued consecutive walks, plating Ryan Hanigan and giving the Reds a 2-0 lead. The Mets hit...

Mets Rumors: New York may target Bronson Arroyo this offseason

Bronson Arroyo is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season and is likely going to garner some interest on the open market. The 36-year old Arroyo would be a good addition for a team on a one or two-year deal. The New York Mets may target starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo this winter, multiple industry sources told Mike Puma of the New York Post. One talent evaluator...

Baffling And Baffled

How can one be angry after a 1-0 win which helps spoil playoff positioning for another team? Well let me show you: First off, Daisuke Matsuzaka, who will be known more for Dice Clock than he will for his recent stretch of good pitching, pitched seven and two thirds of scoreless baseball to get the win in his first ever start against the Cincinnati Reds. He has a 1.37 ERA in his...
