When the calendar switches over from 2012 to 2013, the manufacturer won’t be the only change on the No. 22 Penske Racing team. With the swith from Dodge to Ford, the team will also usher in the arrival of a new driver — Joey Logano.
Logano will be ousted from the seat behind the wheel of the No. 20 car at Joe Gibbs Racing to make room for 2003 NASCAR Sprint (then-Winston) Cup champion Matt Kenseth at the end of the year. JGR planned to race Logano full-time in the Nationwide Series next season, with the possibility of a few Sprint Cup races thrown in.
“You kind of see it coming,” Logano said. “It was best to be proactive about it.”
Logano wanted to remain a full-time Sprint Cup Series driver, and as a two-time winner in the series, felt that he deserved that much. So went Penske Racing driver Brad Keselowski talked to Logano about driving the No. 22 Cup entry at Penske, Logano jumped at the opportunity.
