TEAMS: Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Angels
As seen with the Philadelphia Eagles, having the label as a “dream team” is not always as good as it may seem. With the Angels recent acquisitions of Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson, they are working their way towards that label. They already have a strong foundation of players and an above average manager in Mike Scioscia. Adding arguably the best hitter in the game and a solid #1 starter to go along with Jeff Weaver and Dan Haren makes them the team to beat in the MLB.
Potential Lineup:
- Erik Aybar
- Howie Kendrick
- Bobby Abreu
- Albert Pujols
- Mark Trumbo
- Vernon Wells
- Chris Iannetta
- Peter Bourjos
- Alberto Callaspo
Starting Pitchers:
- Jeff Weaver
- CJ Wilson
- Dan Haren
- Ervin Santana
While that lineup doesn’t look like a bunch of all-stars, the continued improvement of Aybar, Kendrick and Trumbo, on top of the steadiness of Abreu, and the additions of Iannetta and some guy name Albert Pujols makes this a very dangerous lineup. The pitching staff, led by Jeff Weaver who went 18-8 with a 2.41 ERA and Dan Haren (16-10) is going to be lethal in the playoffs.
However, they need to use the Philadelphia Eagles as an example. Very similar to the Angels, the Eagles went out and acquired the best free agents in an attempt to build a dream team. They need to keep their ears shut to all the outside critics about how good they may be and just play their game. It is a 162 game season, so they are bound to lose games. At the end of the day all that matters is if they can lift up the World Series Trophy and earn the title of world champions.
