Louisiana Tech won’t be playing in a bowl game with a 9 – 3 record, and now they are losing their head coach.
Tech coach Sonny Dykes is leaving the Bulldogs to coach at Cal. Dykes had an overall record of 22 – 15 with this season (2012) being his best yet. His Bulldogs also had the number 1 scoring offense in the country this season averaging 51 points a game.

He’ll be taking over a team that’s been trapped in mediocrity for the last 6 years. Former Bears coach Jeff Tedford had 2 10 win seasons in his 11 seasons with the Bears, and both were before 2007.
Dykes should be able to find the players he needs to run his high-powered offense out West, and since he spent 2 years at Arizona before heading to Louisiana Tech in 2010, he knows the landscape.
Meanwhile, back in Ruston, Derek Dooley is available for a job.
