The Charlie Strong Maker's Mark -- Photo by CBSSports Forget being on a Wheaties box — you know you’ve really made it when you get a limited-edition bourbon bottle made with your face on it — or at least that’s how it works in Kentucky. Maker’s Mark, the brand known for its famous Kentucky Bourbon Whisky, is based in Loretto, Kentucky, and has been placing special sports figures from the state on bottles for years. Past figures on the bottle include Charlie Strong, John Calipari, and Rick Pitino. But after winning the the national championship in April with the Louisville Cardinals, Pitino will get to be on the bottle yet again — a rare honor. Who wants to celebrate? There will be 12,600 bottles of @makersmark featuring Rick Pitino. Last year @makersmark sold 8,400 featuring @charliestrong10 — Brett McMurphy (@McMurphyESPN) May 9, 2013

Video: Rick Pitino Tribute; It’s Been A Great Twelve Years

Our friend Mike Lindsey, better known as @CrumsRevenge, has outdone himself once again. Mike was asked by a close and personal friend of Rick Pitino to put together a highlight mix of Pitino’s tenure here at Louisville. Coach Pitino and his friends got their first glimpse of the montage and I can only assume they were all impressed. Given that I was only twelve years old when Rick...

Fish On: Rick Pitino caught an 80-pound marlin in the Bahamas (photo)

Yeah, it’s safe to say that it’s a pretty good deal being Rick Pitino. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that it hasn’t been that way for a long time, but fresh off leading the Louisville Cardinals to national championship, the basketball coach apparently hooked and lugged in a monster 80-pound white marlin during a recent fishing expedition in the Bahamas. It’s a good gig...

Five Star Forward Trey Lyles Hearing From Louisville Every Week

One of the top targets for Rick Pitino’s 2014 recruiting class is 6-foot-10, 245-pound forward Trey Lyles. Pitino had an in home visit the Lyles in late April following Louisville’s national championship. According to Lyles, the visit went great. At this time, it doesn’t seem like the Indianapolis native has any favorites, but Louisville is definitely in the mix. Lyles tells...

Ohio Offensive Lineman Commits To Louisville

Charlie Strong picked up commitment number 11 from the 2014 recruiting class this afternoon. Jared McCray, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound offensive tackle from Minford, OH., has verbally pledged to become a Cardinal. Louisville defensive backs coach Tommy Restivo has been recruiting the state of Ohio very hard in the last two weeks. McCray was one of his targets. Rivals.com ranks McCray as...

Rick Pitino recovers from Kentucky Derby loss by catching an 80-pound Marlin

Who is having a better 2013 in sports than Rick Pitino? Well, besides Aaron Rodgers. Rick Pitino, of course. Granted, his horse did not win the Kentucky Derby last Saturday, but he did manage to add to his great fortune this year, which included that little National Title he won back in April with the Louisville Cardinals. While fishing with his friends, Pitino managed to catch an...

Where are you Old Commonwealth?

Don’t get me wrong. I’ll be among those first in line when the first Makers Mark bottles honoring Rick Pitino are released. His will be displayed right beside the Charlie Strong edition issued last year. The company is to be lauded for its commitment to excellence at the University of Louisville, having pledged $500,000 toward construction of an $8 million academic center for...

Despite A Weak Schedule, Louisville Football Will Still Have Opportunities To Shine

The only thing not to be overly excited about for this year’s Louisville football team is their schedule. On the brink of what could possibly be the best season in the program’s history, Charlie Strong’s squad isn’t expected to have much competition. I personally think that the schedule isn’t exactly as bad as some make it out to be, but the bottom line is, if you want...

Louisville Checks In At No.8 In Sports Illustrated’s Post Spring Rankings

Charlie Strong and the Louisville football program check in at No. 8 in Sports Illustrated’s Post Spring Top 25 rankings. Last week ESPN.com tabbed Louisville No. 4 in their preseason rankings. I’ve always thought that regardless if they go undefeated or not, Louisville will have a tough time being able to play for a national championship. However, if the rankings from Sports Illustrated and...
