First-round draft pick Colin Moran waited five pitches to make an impression as a Miami Marlins minor leaguer. Moran homered in his first at-bat for Class A Greensboro on Wednesday night, when the third baseman from the University of North Carolina made his professional debut. Drafted with the reputation of being a line-drive gap hitter, Moran sent a 2-2 pitch over the right-field fence. It was his first at-bat against live pitching in nearly a month. The solo homer helped the Grasshoppers defeat the Charleston RiverDogs 4-3 in Greensboro, N.C. Moran finished 1 for 3 with a walk. Moran, 20, signed with the Marlins on Friday after being taken with the sixth overall pick in June's draft. He's the nephew of former major leaguer B.J. Surhoff and the brother of Brian Moran, a pitcher in the Seattle Mariners system. According to the Grasshoppers official website, Moran's mother was on hand to watch her son's pro debut. Moran's dad, however, was in Las Vegas watchi...

Seattle Mariners: Second half surge?

The Seattle Mariners ended the first half of the season on a high point, earning their first series sweep of the season.  Overall, July has been a very good month for the Mariners going 8-5 against Texas, Cincinnati, Boston, and the Angels.  Texas, Cincinnati, and Boston would all be in the playoffs if the season ended today.  The schedule gets kinder starting the second half...

Memory lane: The Mariners top 5 memories from the first half

ASB Special Wow, what a night the All Star game was. The atmosphere of New York, the star players in the spotlight, and Mariano Rivera making one last trek to the hill in the eighth while the stadium blasted Enter Sandman all made this a game to remember. And, with a 3-0 triumph by the American League, the Seattle Mariners will have home field advantage in the World Series (I kid...

M's hope Ibanez, young core thrive in 2nd half

(Eds: Updates.) By TIM BOOTH AP Sports Writer Raul Ibanez is crushing homers at a rate better than Barry Bonds or Ted Williams did at age 41, Felix Hernandez has 10 victories at the All-Star break, more than any other time in his career, and young prospects Nick Franklin, Brad Miller and Mike Zunino have provided a much-needed spark for the Seattle clubhouse. And still the Mariners...

Miami Marlins reportedly will hold a ‘Legends of Wrestling Night’

The Miami Marlins, despite a brand new ballpark, have failed to overcome fan apathy in South Beach and convince folks it is worth their time and hard-earned money to place their butts in the seats at Marlins Park. Losing can have that adverse effect. And that’s despite the fact that the ballpark features the most [...]The post Miami Marlins reportedly will hold a ‘Legends of...

Marlins to shut Jose Fernandez down at 170 innings

The Miami Marlins, a team no where near the playoff race, has decided to play it safe and shut their prized rookie Jose Fernandez down at about 170 innings pitched. The 20-year old has been very impressive, jumping from Single A ball to the majors and becoming an All-Star during that rookie season. So it’s no surprise the Marlins are trying to protect the kids arm. The Marlins...

Mariners’ mid-season grades and outlook for the stretch run

Led by the ageless Raul and the King The Seattle Mariners are not in an ideal place. With 43 wins under their belts and another fourth-place finish in the AL West looming, the team is forced to look ahead again. What better way to look ahead than to access the past again and again? #TrueToTheBlue Grading the Mariners may have been a poor title for this piece, but either way, below...

List Of Your Favorite Seattle Mariners’ Walk Up Songs

It’s the All-Star Break and while the Seattle Mariners sit 9 games below .500, I think anyone closely observing can see this is not the same Mariners team we have seen the last few seasons.  There is a lot to be happy about among the new faces—Franklin, Miller, and Zunino—and some of the older faces are finally showing promise.  The oldest face is the most entertaining of...

Mariners 10, Astros 7

Seattle rookie Brad Miller waited 72 at-bats for his first major league homer. The second one came much quicker. Miller hit his first two major league homers on consecutive at-bats and drove in five runs as the Mariners overcame rookie Brandon Barnes' cycle for the Astros in a 10-7 win over Houston on Friday night. ''I was obviously pumped after the first one, hitting...

Miami Marlins to Host "Legends of Wrestling Night" in August

It’s something that Bill Veeck knew and it’s a staple of the Minors: when all else fails, make sure you do creative promotions. The Miami Marlins have certainly taken this to heart for a date in late August. Yes, the club that can boast the worst attendance in Major League Baseball in just the second season in a brand new ballpark is pulling out the stops on Aug 24 when they...

Marlins set to play host to 'Legends of Wrestling Night'

Honestly, there isn't much intrigue in watching the Miami Marlins play baseball this season. The Fish own the National League's worst record and appear to be heading for a third consecutive last place finish in the division. However, there might just be one game fans will want to pencil into their schedule, and that game will be played on Aug. 24, as the Marlins play host...

Marlins to Bring Ring to Diamond With ‘Legends of Wrestling Night’ (Photo)

With the Miami Marlins’ woeful attendance numbers this season, no promotion is too absurd if it gets fans to come to the ballpark. That includes what the team has in store for August 24′s matchup with the Colorado Rockies, when Marlins Park will host Legends of Wrestling Night. According to The Biz of Baseball, more than a dozen current and former professional wrestlers will...
