The Miami Marlins will wear reproductions of uniforms from the 1956 Miami Marlins for Saturday's game at Miller Park against the Milwaukee Brewers, who are hosting a Negro Leagues Tribute. The 1956 Miami Marlins, who played their home games at Miami Stadium, werea Triple-A team in the International League. The Marlins' uniforms on Saturday will feature a patch with the No. 29, the number worn by Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige during his three-year stint (1956-58) with the Marlins near the end of his career. The Brewers will wear reproductions of uniforms worn by the 1923 Milwaukee Bears from the Negro National League. Paige was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971, becoming the first player to be inducted based upon his Negro League career. He played in the Negro Leagues from 1926-1947, including nine seasons with the Kansas City Monarchs, leading the Monarchs to the Negro League World Series championship in 1942. In 1948, Paige became the majors' oldest rookie and the first black pitcher in the American League, pitching for the Cleveland Indians at age 42. Later that year, Paige also became the first black pitcher to pitch in the World Series. During his major league career, Paige pitched for Cleveland (1948-49) and St. Louis-AL (1951-53), making the All-Star team in 1952 and 1953. He also made a one-game appearance with the Kansas City A's in 1965. Sneak peek of what's to come tomorrow. I think this is the freshest logo! Wish we could wear these everyday!! pic.twitter.comsniZVv3ngI Logan Morrison (@LoMoMarlins) July 19, 2013
