Twitch reported today that Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are in talks with Universal that would land the two back in the Bourne franchise. Apparently the only way Damon will come back as the badass Jason Bourne is if Greengrass also agrees to return.
The 2012 film The Bourne Legacy proved that most were not ready for such a drastic character change in one of the best action movie franchise of the 21st century. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that Jeremy Renner’s character Aaron Cross is going to get cut from the storyline. With a potential shift back into the original Bourne films with Damon and Greengrass, it looks like there is a lot of potential for a joint operation between Bourne and Cross, which I think no one will complain about. The reason Damon and Greengrass left the project in the first place was because they simply ran out of storylines, but with a joining of the old and new there is definitely a lot of angles to continue this great franchise. But right now nothing is definite, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
