Dirk Nowitzki practiced yesterday for the first time since he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery before the season began.  The Dallas Mavericks' star has missed the entire season so far as his recovery process has taken longer than expected.  However, yesterday's return to the practice court was a major step in the right direction. According to Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Nowitzki participated in light drills with no contact.  He has not yet been cleared to participate in full-contact practice.  Once he is, Nowitzki's timetable will be more clear.  As it stands now, Price does not think Nowitzki will play this month at all.  The Mavericks and Nowitzki are not rushing the return either. "This is the first day where we stopped and pushing off and moving, and I must now see how it reacts," Nowitzki said. "I'll do that a couple of times and do some contact for a while, and maybe any time after Christmas I can finally get at least a couple of practices under my belt."Nowitzki is the catalyst for the Mavericks offense.  His absence has been tough for Dallas to battle through, but they've held their own.  The team is 12-13 and just one game out of the playoff picture.  It's early in the season, and a lot can change, but Dallas hopes to hang in there long enough for Nowitzki to return and hopefully propel them back into the postseason.Nowitzki has averaged 22.9 points per game in his career and 8.3 rebounds per game.  He is a perennial All-Star and the reason why the Mavericks have been in the postseason in all but two of his seasons in Dallas.  His return can mean the difference between a successful year and missing the playoffs for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. Turnovers are a problem for the Dallas Mavericks

Somehow I feel like I’m in the middle of a “Where’s Waldo” cartoon when I’m watching the Dallas Mavericks as of late. I am and will always be a MFFL, but I have to agree with some of the critics here lately, that the Mavericks are in for a heap of trouble if they don’t clean up their game. Dallas had gone on a three game winning streak, anxiously awaiting the return of...

Pieces come together in Mavs win over 76ers

DALLAS "You can't throw a ball through the nose of a defender and have it come out of his (rear) to a teammate," Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said on the eve of Sixers-at-Mavs, by way of clarifying what might be a misunderstanding that is leading to his team's turnover woes. After climbing above .500 last week, Dallas dropped three straight games, all...

Heat-Mavericks Preview

Dirk Nowitzki is getting closer to making his debut for the Dallas Mavericks, though they'll certainly need more than just his presence in the lineup to improve one of the NBA's worst defenses. A day after getting the good news that Nowitzki is on the mend, the Mavericks will have a serious challenge against one of the league's highest-scoring teams Thursday night as...

Texas A & M football star and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel was sitting court side for the Miami Heat’s win over the Dallas Mavericks last night in Dallas.  Announcer Steve Kerr took advantage of the situation and decided to call him out and ask how he got down there. Mavs overpowered by Heat in Dallas

Heat 110, Mavericks 95

DALLAS -- This isn't the rivalry it once was. Less than two years removed from clash in the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks have gone separate ways. The Heat's 110-95 runaway Thursday night victory at American Airlines Center was just the latest example. LeBron James had it going early as Miami coasted to its third consecutive regular-season win over...
