In any other sport it wouldn't be an issue. LeBron James isn't going to forget how to dunk, and Roger Federer won't suddenly lose his forehand smash. Michael Phelps isn't likely to sink to the bottom of the pool, either. But this is golf, a game so mental it can sometimes seem impossible. And Rory McIlroy is in trouble. Not with the U.S. PGA Tour, even though he walked off the course in the middle of his round on Friday in the Honda Classic. Officials will surely take at face value McIlroy's belated excuse that he had a toothache, even if he was seen wolfing down a sandwich just minutes before calling it a day. He seemed to be eating well the night before, too, sending out a picture on Twitter of a birthday dinner for his mother. But the tooth it is, because it's harder to deal with the other issues that might be facing the No. 1 player in the world. McIlroy himself alluded to them while walking to his car, telling reporters that he's ''not i...

McIlroy's shaky '13 start grows worse

Rory McIlroy's rough start to the year took a bad turn when he withdrew from the Honda Classic midway through his second round, citing a sore wisdom tooth. McIlroy already was 7-over for eight holes at PGA National and certain to miss another cut. "I sincerely apologize," McIlroy said. Rory McIlroy Needs to Grow Up

I’ll make this plain from the get-go…I’m not a Rory McIlroy fan.  I think he’s got the best skillset of any golfer on Tour, is unbelievably good throughout the bag and, when he’s on fire, is literally untouchable…that said, unless you’re John Daly or Michelle Wie, you do not walk out of a golf tournament where you’re not injured.  You just don’t.  For every Rory...

McIlroy leaves, Guthrie leads and Woods struggles

Rory McIlroy left before his round was even over. Tiger Woods had to rally just to stick around. And with all that drama Friday in the Honda Classic, hardly anyone noticed that Luke Guthrie showed off his potential in a big way with a 7-under 63 to take a one-shot lead going into the weekend at PGA National. Guthrie, pegged by many of his peers as a rookie worth watching going...

Tiger Woods scrambles to make cut at Honda

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. Tiger Woods nearly had a second straight free weekend to play some leisurely golf with Rory McIlroy. But a sand save at No. 17 and a scramble for par at No. 18 on Friday enabled Woods to finish 36 holes at even par right on the cut line and stay alive at The Honda Classic. Earlier, world No. 1 McIlroy withdrew in the middle of his ninth hole, citing...

Nike deal adds to Rory's pressures
