The New York Islanders and the Philadelphia Flyers have a fairly long history together. The animosity isn’t there like it was back in the early 80s, when the Islanders were a dominate team and the Flyers were transitioning from the Bullies to something new. Before this past season, the Flyers had dominated the Isles. However, times have changed and a lot of the Islanders’ young offensive talent is finally making a difference. This season the NHL has enacted a rule that prohibits players from removing their helmets prior to engaging in a fight. What they didn’t account for is what took place in tonight’s Islander-Devil pre-season game. Islanders’ enforcer Brett Gallant and Devils’ enforcer/hockey thinker Krys Barch exposed a really obvious loophole in the NHL’s new rule by removing each other’s...
Over the summer the Islanders didn't do a ton in terms of bringing in new faces but they did add rough-and-tumble Cal Clutterbuck and his spectacular mustache.
Unfortunately his debut could be delayed with the season just two weeks away. That's because of an injury he suffered Tuesday night in the Isles' exhibition game in Calgary.
It was suspected that Clutterbuck...
Earlier this week Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck suffered a laceration on his leg from a skate and coach Jack Capuano said he'd miss 'some extended time.' On Friday we found out how long that is.
The Isles announced that Clutterbuck is going to be out of the lineup for 4-6 weeks. That leaves a timeframe for a return to be in mid-October to as late as November 1.
Josh Bailey scored two short-handed goals in the first period, leading the New York Islanders to a 5-3 preseason victory over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.
The Islanders got to Devils goalkeeper Martin Brodeur for four goals on just eight shots over the first 20 minutes.
Anders Lee got the Islanders going with a power-play goal just 3:32 into the game. Bailey then made...
John Tavares of the New York Islanders is the #5 forward points-only hockey pool pick. He is a Canadian born center who is 22 years old. He may be one of the youngest of the super star snipers but he does not show inexperience on the ice. He leads his team in points every season and is likely to lead your fantasy team if you are fortunate enough to draft him. A downside to drafting is
Early in the third period of the Islanders 5-3 loss to the Flames in Calgary; winger Cal Clutterbuck left the game injuring himself on a check. This is more important than anything I will write about yesterdayâs games. Thankfully the injury does not appear serious and when the Isles release info on him I will surely update you all.
Now to last night games, In Regina the...
There are few things better in hockey than two heavyweights dropping the gloves, adjusting their elbow pads and chucking knuckles.
There are few things more awkward in hockey than two heavyweights dropping the gloves, adjusting their elbow pads and having to remove each others’ helmets before chucking knuckles.

The headline makes it sound like they sat down and went over a bunch of paperwork, but trust me, it involves them punching each other in the face.
Recently, the NHL’s GMs and the Board of Governors created and approved a new rule that gives players a two-minute minor penalty for removing their helmet before a fight, leaving you with seven minutes in the box; five for fighting and...
