PLAYERS: Jon Niese
TEAMS: New York Mets
The New York Mets, who despite being in rebuilding mode are not a terrible team, may get Jon Niese back by August.  At least, that's what the team hopes.  Niese has been on the DL since late June with a rotator cuff tear.  Fortunately, the tear did not require surgery, so Niese's return this season is very possible, if not probable. And according to Mets manager Terry Collins, Niese's return could come as early as next month. A few Mets updates: Collins is hoping Niese is back by early August. Ike will be on short leash. Collins believes Mets can finish over .500. — Mike Kerwick (@mikekerwick) July 16, 2013 Niese, when healthy, can be a solid starting pitcher.  This season he pitched through the shoulder issue and hit the DL with a 3-6 record and a 4.32 ERA.  However, last season, Niese was 13-9 with a 3.40 ERA.  Overall, Niese is closing in on a career ERA that could quickly drop below 4.00.  He has a 4.09 ERA in six seasons. The Mets like Niese because he is young and cost controlled.  He is just 26 years old and he cannot hit free agency until after the 2016 season.  This gives the club plenty of time to watch him develop and see what type of player he can be. Jerry Seinfeld rips New York Mets fans for booing during All-Star Game

Jerry Seinfeld was not just a big New York Mets fan in “Seinfeld.” The actor/comedian loves the Mets in real life, and he was not in a joking mood after the events that took place at the All-Star Game at Citi Field on Tuesday night. Seinfeld, who actually named his dog after a former Mets player, [...]

Flores Working Hard To Prove Doubters Wrong On Defense

So in yesterday’s MiLB Report, Adam Rubin noted that Wilmer Flores would miss the Triple-A All-Star game with an ankle injury — but the injury itself is considered to be minor. It’s bad timing for Flores, but his longterm health is more important than one exhibition game. One of the things that might have went by the boards in the report, however, was this… After primarily...

MMO GFX: Happy Harvey Day!

As most of you know by now, Matt Harvey has been named the National League starting pitcher at the 84th All-Star Game to be played at Citi Field tonight at 8 p.m. EST. Harvey is the third Mets pitcher to start an All-Star Game. Dwight Gooden started the 1988 All-Star Game at Cincinnati and the 1986 Game at Houston. Tom Seaver started the 1970 All-Star Game in Cincinnati. Harvey...

How Mets Responded To Opening Day Questions

When the New York Mets broke camp this spring, they did so with a myriad of questions for manager Terry Collins. That’s not surprising considering the Opening Day roster featured only nine players from the 2012 first-game roster. I broke the questions down to pitching and position players, limiting each category to just five questions. So, let’s go back and address each question...

Harvey wants to have life like Jeter

Mets phenom Matt Harvey is living the dream in his first full season in the majors, starting the All-Star Game in front of the hometown fans and dating a supermodel. So why not shoot for the moon? Harvey said he wants to have Derek Jeter's life, especially his love life, and have "the best apartment in the city" when he gets "that $200 million contract."...

Matt Harvey Trolls The Streets Of New York

Tonight the New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey will take the mound at Citi Field to start the Major League Baseball All-Star Game less than a year after making his MLB debut on the very same field. The Five Longest Mets Home Runs At Citi Field

With the All-Star break’s two days of horror almost over (The two days without baseball after the ASG really suck), I decided to do a little research. The Home Run Derby on Monday had home runs land in places I thought were impossible. Prince Fielder nearly cleared the Pepsi Porch while Yoenis Cespedes peppered the 3rd deck in LF. So I began to wonder about what exactly were the...

Matt Harvey Is Having A Great Time Being Matt Harvey

Matt Harvey recently sat down with David Amsden of Men’s Journal to discuss how amazin’ it is being Matt Harvey. When the article leaked Harvey caught some backlash for coming off cocky and a poor role model.  Harvey even sent out a disclaimer about being taken out of context.   It really sucks how words get used and completely taken out of context. — Matt Harvey (@MattHarvey33...

All Star Game Preview

Hometown pitcher Matt Harvey (7-2, 2.35 ERA) of the Mets gets the ball for the National League and will be going up against Max Schrezer (13-1, 3.19 ERA) of the Tigers for the 2013 All Star Game. Harvey has been the bright spot for the Mets this season in an otherwise forgetful first half. He leads the NL with 147 strikeouts and his Whip is a measly 0.92, second best in the NL....

Where’s Jerry Koosman?

That’s the cover of this year’s Mets Media Guide. I was taking a look at it this morning and thought I spotted a curious omission. Jon Matlack 4. Mike Piazza 5. John Stearns 6. Carlos Beltran...
