As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers: New Orleans Zephyrs @ Las Vegas 51s, 10:05pm EST TBD vs. Jacob deGrom (4-2, 4.02 ERA) PCL League Scoreboard deGrom bounced back from two subpar showings to pitch well in his last time out. Jacob went 6.1 innings without allowing a run. He sat down six hitters via the strikeout while walking just won. For his efforts he received the win, bringing his mark with Las Vegas to 4-2 on the season. He looks to keep it going against New Orleans. Binghamton Mets @ Reading Fightin’ Phils, 7:05pm EST Erik Goeddel (9-5, 3.55 ERA) vs. Jesse Biddle (4-12, 3.76 ERA) EAS League Scoreboard Goeddel takes the bump in what figures to be a very good pitching matchup. Erik finds himself matched up against Reading’s ace, and one of the better pitching prospects in baseball in Jesse Biddle. Goeddel hasn’t allowed an earned run in either of his past two starts, for a total of 12.1 scoreless innings. He’s struck out 10 batters a...

Is LaTroy Hawkins The Mets Biggest Surprise in 2013?

Anthony DiComo, the Mets beat writer for MLB.com, wrote an article on Tuesday night about how LaTroy Hawkins has gone from thinking about retiring at seasons end to preparing to pitch in his 20th big league season next year. Two months ago, LaTroy Hawkins was convinced he was going to retire at season’s end. “I don’t recover like I used to,” he said at the time. “It’s...

Featured Post: Harvey vs Wheeler After Ten Starts

As Zack Wheeler wrapped up the 10th start of his young and promising career on Saturday night, I was all set to compare his first ten against Matt Harvey‘s until I saw the incredible job that Brian Joura did over at Mets 360. Rather than churn out 500 words to basically say the same thing, I figure you would all be better served by reading what Brian had to say and let him do all...

Flores Could Be Heading To DL With A “Twisted” Ankle

After injuring his ankle in last night’s game, Terry Collins just said that Wilmer Flores’ right ankle is worse today than it was last night. Collins said they will wait a day or two before making a final decision, but Flores could be heading to the DL with a ‘twisted” ankle… He is day to day now and Flores is limping, but they will hope for the best… Unbelievable, we...

Did Mets Mishandle Wilmer Flores Injury?

Once again the New York Mets’ handling of an injury leaves us scratching our heads. This time, it is Wilmer Flores, who one week into the major leagues, isn’t wise or brave enough to say, “hey, something is wrong here.’’ FLORES: Limping to DL? (Getty) Flores sprained his right ankle running the bases Monday, did not play Tuesday and could soon go on the disabled list. All...

Hits & Misses: Forever Young? Who’s At Short? A Flores For Your Thoughts?

What a week we just wrapped up and as is usually the case, there’s plenty of storylines and news we can talk about before the Mets take the field at 10:10 PM against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Who’s At Short? For the time being Terry Collins is fully intent on going with Omar Quintanilla as his everyday shortstop. “I’ve yet to see why Omar Quintanilla should lose his job. All...

Mets' Bobby Parnell could miss remainder of season

Over the weekend it was reported that the New York Mets might not get third baseman and team captain David Wright, who's recovering from a strained right hamstring, back this season as he continues to trudge along through his rehab from injury. Nothing has changed with Wright's status since last week, and the same can also be said about closer Bobby Parnell. Parnell won...

Harvey Lacked Command Of His Off-Speed Pitches Against The Dodgers

Matt Harvey is in the midst of a spectacular season, his first full one in the major leagues. But as he showed on Tuesday night against the Dodgers, even he is susceptible to an occasional hiccup now and then. The Mets’ ace lacked command of his off-speed pitches and the Dodgers made him pay by tagging Harvey for four runs on eight hits over six innings pitched. His ERA took a...

Flores Homers, Finishes First Week In Majors With Nine RBIs

Congratulations to Wilmer Flores who walloped his first major-league home run on Sunday as the Mets beat the Diamondbacks 9-5. Flores extended his streak to five straight games with an RBI and also tied the franchise record for most runs batted in with nine in his first six major league appearances. It’s shaping up to be one of the best debuts for a Mets position player in franchise...

Contending in 2014 with Three Off-Season Acquisitions.

The clock is ticking on the 2013 season, and we’ve learned so much about the future of this franchise. The problem is, in some aspects we’ve learned the Mets have more work to do than we had hoped. Whether Ike Davis hits 10 HR in the next 10 days or not, Davis needs to go. He was given a second chance to prove that 2012 was a fluke, and instead he proved it was a red flag. There’s...

Reverting Back to “You Gotta Believe”

In 2005, the Mets fan was generally an optimistic one. Sure, we as fans were still getting over the bitter Subway Series defeat. Yet, the idea that somebody fresh and new was coming in to take over the Mets and build a team around our two young potential stars in Jose Reyes and David Wright allowed any Mets fan I know to be patient, but more importantly optimistic. The ideas of a...

Will The Mets Be All-In On Cuban Sensation Jose Abreu?

As Baseball America first reported, Jose Abreu, the premier offensive player in Cuba, has defected with the goal of trying to sign a contract to play baseball with a major league team. Abreu, 26, would hit the market as a free agent and according to Baseball America, will be able to sign as a free agent “exempt from the international signing bonus pools.” In other words, this...

Wilmer Flores’ Heat Map

Before Travis d’Arnaud, there was Wilmer Flores…our top position player prospect for many years. Flores has finally hit the MLB and has picked up where he left off in Triple-A, showing impressive plate coverage. The above heat map was provided by Mark Simon and I wanted to take a second to comment on it. It’s natural to see a right-handed hitter demonstrate hitting prowess...
