First of all I want to recognize all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom and democracy every American enjoys today. May they never be forgotten and I hope all of them are solemnly remembered today for their incredible heroism and bravery. Rest in peace my brothers and sisters. What an amazing game by the incomparable and mystifying R.A. Dickey on Sunday This man is a true marvel and a testament to the virtues of perseverance and determination that made him the great pitcher he is today. The Mets have won the last seven games that Dickey has started and he never fails to impress me. On Saturday morning, former Mets top pitching prospect Kevin Mulvey told manager Pedro Lopez that he was retiring after that day’s game. Mulvey never achieved the lofty expectations that were put on him, but he always handled himself with class and dignity so that still makes him a top person if not a top prospect. Pedro Beato is working his way back and we may see him before too long. Y...

Mets Finally Cut Acosta As Turner Heads To DL, Schwinden and Quintanilla Called Up

Following Monday’s 8-4 loss to Philadelphia, the Mets made several roster moves: After leaving the game with an apparent ankle injury, Justin Turner will be placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained ankle. To replace the replacement to the replacement for Ruben Tejada, the Mets have promoted infielder Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Buffalo to presumably be the everyday shortstop...

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed to Jon Heyman of CBSSportsline.com,that the Mets plan to offer David Wright a contract extension during the season. “I would expect sometime before the season’s over, we will have a conversation,” Alderson told Heyman. “I’m hopeful he’ll be here a long time.” According to Heyman: By making an offer in season, it...

R.A. Dickey – Is Mets Knuckleballer An All-Star?

Photo by Ed Leyro/Studious Metsimus (Yeah, that's right. I took it. Not bad, huh?) On Sunday, R.A. Dickey pitched 7⅓ innings of shutout ball against the Padres, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out ten batters.  The 10-K performance gave Dickey 29 strikeouts over his last three starts (20⅓ IP).  It also helped in lowering his ERA to 3.06, a number Dickey had...

It looks like we showed up too late In Savannah... Buffalo 7, Columbus 1 By Andrew O’Brien Days after Buffalo Bisons manager Wally Backman had a heart-to-heart with Jordany Valdepsin, the 24-year-old responded. Unlikely Heroes Push the Mets Past Phillies, 6-3

Omar Quintanilla. Jeremy Hefner. Scott Hairston.  If someone told me prior to tonight’s game that those would be the names of the offensive stars of the night for the Mets, I’d have said this team was in danger of being swept tomorrow.  But that isn’t the case, as the Mets are in position to take yet another series from the Phillies tomorrow on the strength on some big offensive...

Recap: Dickey Dominates In Banner Day Return As Mets Best Padres 2-0

Recap: For the first time since 1996, Mets fans could walk the field parading their Mets banners and expressing their passionate love for their New York Mets. R.A. Dickey took the hill looking to take this four game set from the Padres with a win on such a special and fan-filled day and did not disappoint. Dickey went a dominant shutout 7.1 innings, allowing just three hits and a...

Roster Shakeup: Acosta, Schwinden, Quintanilla and What’s Next

Manny Acosta was finally DFA’d today as the Mets made some roster moves. If you watched today’s game, the writing was on wall for Manny pretty much immediately. He came into the game with the Mets down a run and promptly gave up two hits and then some how struck out a batter. Then he gave up a three run bomb and the Mets were basically out of it from that point on. Acosta leaves...

Mets 6, Phillies 3

Jeremy Hefner earned his first victory in the majors, highlighting the occasion by homering for his first big league hit as the New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 on a rainy Tuesday night. The 26-year-old rookie became the first major league pitcher to hit his first homer in his first win since 2002, when Dennis Tankersley did it with San Diego, STATS LLC said. Pinch...

Depth and Opportunity

The Mets have no depth on their 40-man roster. You’ve heard that since the offseason. I preached it here consistently during spring training.  I believed this club had an outside chance of winning about 85 games; maybe even competing in a pennant race for a second Wild Card. What would derail them was their depth, or lack of it. The names were not exciting. Vinny Rottino, Jeremy...
