PLAYERS: Phil Hughes
TEAMS: New York Yankees
It was always going to be the case. This scrappy, rag-tag Yankee team was not going to hold up against their cross-town rivals. We won a game in Tampa, stole a game in Tampa and got undressed a game in Tampa.  Our typical outing is about two runs and a lot of pitching. It is a shame that we did nothing for Phil Hughes. It is a shame we made that Met drudge pitcher look like an all star.  It is a shame that Robbie gave up his winning streak. It is a shame that the Mets have not yet used their best pitcher. It is a shame that we are going to be ashamed when this goat series staggers to an end.

MLB rumors: Yankees' Phil Hughes a fit for Mets?

The New York Yankees and Mets are partaking in what's become an interleague tradition; the Subway Series. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com believes one current Yankees player and free agent-to-be could be a potential fit for the Mets; right-handed starting pitcher Phil Hughes. Phil Hughes will be FA this winter. His fly ball tendencies wouldn't be huge issue at Citi. #Mets should...

Phil Hughes Orders Starbucks As ‘Sanderson’ As ‘Payback’ for Derek Jeter Getting Coffee With Fake Name (Photo)

Maybe that coffee was for Phil Hughes after all. Derek Jeter found himself in the headlines for the most innocuous of reasons Thursday after the Yankees captain, who is on the disabled list while recovering from a broken ankle, was seen leaving a Starbucks with a cup labeled “Philip.” Conjecture quickly began, with some wondering whether Jeter had stolen someone’s drink and...

Keith Hernandez calls broken bat ‘dead soldier’ on Memorial Day

Keith Hernandez was doing his usual job as a color commentator on Monday when he referenced a casual baseball saying that was untimely given the holiday. Daniel Murphy was facing Phil Hughes in the bottom of the first of Monday’s New York Mets-New York Yankees Subway Series game and broke his bat on a 94-mph [...]

Monday: Phil Hughes holds the Mets are held to three hits in a 7-0 Yankees victory. The Yankees, after suffering mysterious injuries to everybody else in their lineup on Monday morning, score seven runs with a lineup consisting of players from Scranton Wilkes-Barre, Trenton, a fan who once caught a foul ball in the stands at Yankee Stadium, and a 12-year-old. Ike Davis has all three...

Keith Hernandez makes “dead soldier” bat joke

Keith Hernandez had been in front of the microphone for years. On Monday the former big leaguer turned announcer made an on-air gaffe. When Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes induced a broken bat chopper off the bat of Lyle Overbay the on-air personality compared the broken bat to a dead soldier. It was a poor choice of words by Hernandez who is known for pitching products such as Just...

Yankees game 50 lineup: 5/27/13

Memorial Day is one of the bench-marks of the baseball season, as fans can see what their team is like and where they’re going. The Yankees enter today atop the AL East, tied with Boston. The Mets, on the other hand, are 11 games below .500 and searching for meaning in the 2013 season. Both teams will go head-to-head for the next four days in this year’s version of the Subway...

Keith Hernandez calls a broken bat a "dead soldier" on Memorial Day

Monday in America was Memorial Day, a day where we celebrate the men and women of the Armed Services that we've lost. MLB typically loads up the schedule with day games and pays tribute to the military before and during each game, and it's something that is a sight to see. During the Yankees-Mets game on Monday night, Keith Hernandez (a solid, or dare I even say good...

Game Preview: Yankees vs Mets

It’s rivalry week where most teams are playing their Interleague partner. Of course it feels different this year as there is always an interleague series happening and one rivalry pair (Houston/Texas) is no longer interleague so they aren’t playing right now. Anyway, the Mets won last night and look to continue that into a long streak to reverse the direction the team is moving...

Keith Hernandez Calls Broken Bat ‘Dead Soldier’ on Memorial Day Mets Broadcast (Video)

On Memorial Day, America takes time off to remember those who have lost their lives in service to their country — and the bats that have lost their lives in service to the Mets? Keith Hernandez fell victim to a bad broadcasting snafu Monday evening during the Yankees-Mets series at Citi Field. After Daniel Murphy splintered his bat going after a Phil Hughes pitch, Hernandez narrated...

Yankees game 52 lineup: 5/29/13

After a stunning loss last night, the Yankees return to the Bronx for the back-end of this year’s Subway Series. Phil Hughes and Hiroki Kuroda each pitched great in the first two games, although they came away with nothing to show for it. Tonight, David Phelps hopes to get a W. Jeremy Hefner gets the start for the Mets, who are 0-10 in his starts this season. New York Mets...
