The Mets announced today that they have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with catcher Mike Nickeas with an invite to Spring Training.
Nickeas elected free agency along with outfielder Fred Lewis earlier this week after being removed from the 40-man roster, however Nickeas will return to the Mets organization for 2013.
With one of the biggest holes on the Mets roster being the catching position, this certainly adds –or maintains– a level of depth at backstop, however let’s just hope this isn’t the only move Sandy Alderson and the Mets make at catcher.

It only hurts when I breathe: Mets fan or pneumonia?
After being sick for nearly a month, my body finally crashed on Monday. I thought I contacted the flu but found out that I have pneumonia. I also found out that pneumonia is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Fortunately for me, most deaths occur in children or the elderly. Sometimes it’s good to be middle-aged.
In a weird kind of way, the symptoms and side...

Assorted notes from the GM's meetings
INDIAN WELLS, Ca. – Assorted notes from the GM meetings:
*I already can hear the New York Mets’ spin on right-hander R.A. Dickey now – the tried and true “Greedy Ballplayer” theory.
Dickey, the Mets will say, wanted too much in a contract extension, so the team traded him rather than get suckered into a bad deal.
Such a portrayal simply would not be accurate...
