Mark Martin and Michael Waltrip will ride share the number 55 car during the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Martin is expected to compete in 25 events behind the wheel of the car while Waltrip will drive the Aaron’s Dream Machine for seven events. Martin will drive the car during the Daytona 500.
The number is supposed to represent the year 1955 which was the founding of Aaron’s. Previously the car had been driven by David Reutimann with the number 00. While Martin and Waltrip will drive the car the majority of the year, the remaining races will be shared out amongst other drivers and different sponsors.
Waltrip previously drove the 55 car when he first started Michael Waltirp Racing. The 56 car of Martin Truex will have sponsorship from Napa. Clint Bowyer will drive the number 15 car with sponsorship from 5 Hour Energy.
Currently it is unclear if Waltrip plans to rotate any of the car owner points as Bowyer’s car would not currently be guaranteed a starting spot in the Daytona 500....
