With the Vancouver Canucks seemingly short of quality forwards — given the injuries to Alex Burrows Jannik Hansen and the man who likely would have been the replacement for anyone injured in Niklas Jensen — you have to wonder whether they ever think about their decision to send Bo Horvat back to junior so quickly. And you wonder particularly because of the early success enjoyed by some of the forwards from this most recent draft like Nathan MacKinnon Aleksander Barkov Elias Lindholm (who has fought through an early minor shoulder injury to score his first NHL goal) and most notably Sean Monahan in Calgary. Is the drop-off from Monahan at sixth overall to Horvat at No. 9 so significant particularly given the latter’s apparent physical maturity? When you look at the Canucks depth chart up front it’s entirely likely Horvat is the third best centre in the organization because the streaking Mike Santorelli is really needed on the wing now more than ever given these injuries and the no...

Burrows, Booth and Why Bother

The Vancouver Canucks are going into the last game of a successful 7 game road trip tonight in St. Louis.  At the end of this trip I can say there are 3 topics that have jumped out at me; the return of Alexandre Burrows is close, the benching of David Booth and why bother dressing a 4th line.   Alex Burrows is the good news in this article as he is set to return from his early...

NHL must do more to promote Western teams

The Vancouver Canucks were in Newark, New Jersey on Thursday night to take on the Devils. Most of the controversy behind the Schneider/Luongo reunion had passed through on New Jersey's earlier trip to BC a couple of weeks ago. Still, however, this is a game featuring a team that made a recent Stanley Cup visit, has two viable NHL superstars in the Sedin twins, an Olympian in...

David Booth a healthy scratch. Insert…Andrew Alberts?

Booth was banished to the press box There’s a good chance he’s still smiling. Hey everyone, I used to blog here on the Vancouver Canucks a long time ago. Well,  long story short is that I’m back. Actually, it’s a short story and not entertaining or informative, so how about we just forget about it and pretend like I’ve been here the whole time? Good? Great! It’s a good...

The Canucks (7-4-1) have played...

Canucks’ top forwards not complaining about ice time as coach Tortorella rides prime players

The Canucks got the day off Wednesday giving the players a chance to explore the bright lights of New York City. Some of them however may have decided to skip the City That Never Sleeps and well just stay in bed and sleep. Who could blame them? If there’s one thing coach John Tortorella has proven in the first 11 games of the regular season is that he’s going to ride his top...

There will be far less fanfare surrounding Cory Schneider's second start against his former Vancouver Canucks teammates than the first just over two weeks ago, leaving him to focus solely on helping the New Jersey Devils bust out of their slump. New Jersey will be without captain Bryce Salvador, though, when it hosts Vancouver on Thursday night. The Canucks traded Schneider...
