With defensive end Jerel Worthy now officially a member of the New England Patriots, the Green Bay Packers have given up on yet another member of its draft class of 2012. Since the completion of the Worthy trade, much discussion has broken out about whether or not that draft class is one of if not the worst draft class the Packers have had since general manager Ted Thompson took control of the team’s football operations in 2005. On paper, it doesn’t exactly look good for Thompson. First round pick Nick Perry has not become the pass rusher Green Bay had hoped to help complement Clay Matthews and has battled injuries his first two seasons in the league. Worthy, a second round pick, was just traded and was in danger of not making the roster due to injuries. Jerron McMillian, Terrell Manning, Andrew Datko and BJ Coleman, taken in rounds four through seven, all are no longer with the team. All is not lost, however. The Packers’ other second rounder in 2012, cornerback Casey Hayward, and ...

Packers Gave Up On Jerel Worthy Too Soon

The Green Bay Packers don’t normally make trades — so when the news spread that defensive tackle Jerel Worthy had been traded to the New England Patriots, it was a surprise. I understand why the Packers made the deal. Worthy hasn’t lived up to the potential that caused Green Bay to use a second round draft pick on him in the 2014 NFL Draft, there is no doubt about that. Yet...

Packers Worthy Sadly Never Lived Up To Name

The Green Bay Packers trade with other teams about as often as pigs fly. Typically they are reserved for only for draft day for either a higher pick or more late-round selections. Jerel Worthy started his brief tenure in Green Bay in such a manner. Ted Thompson traded away the team’s fourth round pick to move up 8 spots up in the draft to take him at 51. Not a bad little bit of...

At first glance, it seems like a simple trade that sent a player who had no chance of making the team to another one where he may have a shot. Since...

Jerel Worthy a Blemish on Packers’ Stellar 2nd Round Track Record

Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Nick Collins, Greg Jennings, Eddie Lacy: These are some of the Packers’ second-round draft picks who have turned into big-time players during the Ted Thompson era. Players like Casey Hayward, Mike Neal and Daryn Colledge — solid contributors, not big-time players (at least not yet in Hayward’s case) — were also second-round picks. Thompson has...
